Being a new officer aboard the ship, Cassie's shy nature has prevented her from forming many close relationships thus far. Slowly but surely, the close knit, small crew of the USS Arrow is cracking her stern exterior and she's warming up to her new home.

Due to the high stress she puts on herself, and the stress that comes with intensive training to become a doctor, Cassie has developed some compulsive behaviors; organizing, color-coordinating, as well as other minor anxious habits. It is because of her need for organization and neatness that she can be rather finicky in details, as well as be perceived as "high maintenance." However, her acute eye for detail can be a blessing in her line of work.

During her childhood, Cassie was often found in her mothers' backyard. Sitting under the draped canopy inside the small greenhouse, she read as many books as she could get her hands on. To this day, Cassie's love of reading is something she prides herself on and does as often as time allows.

Despite her goals of wanting to be a physician, Cassie did not always see herself working for Starfleet. It was her first year of college that Cassie broke up with her high school sweetheart, just several months after becoming engaged. Cassie resides in a single occupancy room on Deck 3 (Room 03-004) onboard the USS Arrow. Decoration is sparse and most of the room is taken up by her library of books.

Gerald:  Gifted to her after graduation from the Academy, Cassie's African Violet was the first decoration placed in her quarters once assigned to the Arrow. She's extremely fond of the little plant because it reminds her of her mothers' garden surrounding her childhood home. She's affectionately named it Gerald. It's one of the only non-book related decorations she's accumulated thus far.

Hand Bound Journals: Like any true book lover, Cassie prefers traditional pen and paper for most things, including her personal journals. Which is exactly why she needed a new one to commemorate her first duty posting as a member of the 'Fleet. Always one to take matters into her own hands, Cassie put her skills to use and designed a space themed leather bound journal with her mother Rin's zodiac constellation.
Knitting Supplies: While she hasn't had much time to begin such an ambitious project, Cassie hopes to be able to take up knitting again and hopefully complete a blanket. There's no real need for one when the climate controls are so easily adjusted onboard the Arrow, but there's nothing better after a long day than to curl up with a book. Even better if it's under a blanket made by your own two hands.
Personal Medkit: While it's not necessary, Cassie keeps a personal Medkit in her quarters. Should there be an emergency that requires immediate attention, Cassie knows that it would only waste time should she need to go to Sickbay to retrieve a fully stocked kit before arriving on the scene. It could be her compulsive tendencies that make her check it every morning before she starts her day, but she likes to think it simply means she's prepared to do her job.

 • Notable Injuries/Scars: Due to a hiking accident when she was younger, Cassie sometimes gets pain in her left shoulder as a result from minimal nerve damage.

Personal Life

Generally, Cassie is very work oriented and is sometimes accused of being "all work and no play." However, her gentle and calm demeanor has led to her having a good bedside manner, something she considers a necessity in her line of work. Though, in her social life, Cassie does not often venture out of her comfort zone, she is determined to be less afraid looking into the future with Starfleet.

Early Life

Cassie and Beatrice, 2378

As a result of the Cassie's moms being a same-sex couple, all three of their children are adopted. On several occasions, Cassie has credited her desire to become a physician to her mothers and their dedication to their work as well as the health of their own children.

All three siblings attended Marilyn Highland's Preparatory Academy, a renowned private school in their home town. It was at this school that Cassie was often overlooked by her other classmates because of her timid nature. Constantly nervous, Cassie's only satisfaction came in the form of her school work.

Despite her goals of wanting to be a physician, Cassie did not always see herself working for Starfleet. It was her first year of college and the break up with her fiancé that inspired a change of plans. The more she focused inwards, the more the shy bookworm in her desired adventure and travel. As soon as the thought of Starfleet crossed her mind, the more it seemed like the only option.

Life at The Academy

During her time at the Academy, Cassie distracted herself from her broken heart by diving into her studies. This, combined with her shy nature, led to her missing out on most of the social life her fellow cadets got to experience, and only introverted her more. Though this was good for her education, she's often been told that her quiet focus can be misinterpreted as rude and snobby.

While studying at the Starfleet Medical Academy, Cassie developed her specialties in Xenobiology and Neuroscience. Additionally, she developed an interest in chiropractic treatments in humanoid species, and the practical uses of acupuncture.

Hobbies & Preferences

Cassie spends most of her free time reading. Her favorite genres are fantasy and science fiction. Poetry, from Earth and other Federation planets, is also one of her favorites. Her love of reading and sewing skills inspired Cassie to become interested in the skill of bookbinding, a unique and antiquated hobby that she considers just as valuable a skill now as it would have been centuries prior.

Knitting and sewing are also favorite pastimes because the repetitious motions can be calming for someone as high strung as Cassie. She also enjoys gardening, though hasn't been able to do it much while in the Academy and now aboard the Arrow.

Growing up with a child therapist as a mother, Cassie was taught early on to learn breathing exercises and remain calm, something that would later go on to help her in frantic medical situations. It also sparked a life long appreciation for yoga. Occasionally, Cassie will enjoy hiking, though she's always sure to bring a fully equipped Medkit in case of emergencies.

The first book Cassie bound while onboard the Arrow.

Relationships

Family & Past Relationships

Rin Mason.jpg

Rin Mason, MD
Mother

A pediatrician, Rin runs her own practice in the town she grew up in. Her family resides in the old Victorian style home passed down through her family.

Despite having met her wife at a children's health seminar, Rin had long been a fan of Sana after reading her first published book, "Childhood Development and the Impacts of Academia on the Adolescent Mind". Despite being adopted, Cassie definitely "inherited" Rin's gentle nature with her patients.

Sana Mae Safi, PsyD
Mother

A child psychologist, Sana has an office located in Manhattan, New York. She works with children of varying ages, though she's often confessed to preferring helping teenagers.

While Rin is bold and always says what's on her mind, Sana is more quiet and chooses her words carefully. The first time the two women met Sana was won over by Rin's easy confidence. Cassie gets her love of reading and writing from Sana, and the two will often share poetry with one another. Some of Cassie's favorite memories from her childhood are of Sana reading to her.

Alexander Mason
Older Brother

Being several years older than his two younger sisters, Alex doesn't have a very close relationship with his siblings. He and Cassie have always gotten along, the both of them being very quiet individuals and sometimes bonding over a shared love of academia.

Alex currently lives in Spain with his partner and son while working in the United States Embassy in Barcelona.

Beatrice Mason.jpg

Beatrice Mason
Younger Sister

A graduate student at New York University, Beatrice is studying Biomolecular Science. Despite being immature, boisterous, and impulsive in her youth, Beatrice has matured significantly. This, however, has unfortunately not resulted in the two women growing closer.

With their personalities being so different and so close in age, Cassie and Beatrice have never gotten along. Bea was often embarrassed by her sister's anxiety and timidness at school and refused to tell the other students that the two of them were members of the same family.

Despite never being close, Bea was exasperated when Cassie told the family she was signing up for Starfleet. Ever since, the two women have been estranged and even though Cassie tried reaching out time and time again, Beatrice refuses to speak to her sister.

Martin Keen.png

Martin Keen
Ex-fiancé

Cassie's first and only romantic relationship, the two got engaged before Cassie entered medical school. Several months later, Marty's work as a geologist presented him with an offer to work off planet.

Despite not sharing many common interests, Cassie and Marty always got along and had great chemistry. Since their break up, the two have not been in contact.

Friends

MariaSmiling.png

Maria Alvarez
Friend & Crewmate

Despite the seeming improbable odds, Maria and Cassie have grown rather close on board the Arrow. The two women couldn't be more different. One's impulsive, chaotic, and bold while the other is still stuck inside a rather thick shell.

Perhaps it is because of their juxtaposed personalities that the two have gotten so close. And Maria has brought some much needed excitement and thrill into the life of the otherwise timid doctor.
