Shortly after joining the crew of the USS Eagle, the newly minted Ensign Drex headed to the ship's gymnasium. There she saw another young woman putting a heavy bag through its paces. Kayla, having trained for years (out of both fitness motivation and pure interest) in various forms of martial art and hand-to-hand combat, asked Blackwell if she'd "like a moving target." The two were evenly matched in sparring, and after an exhaustingly enjoyable workout, both lay panting on the mat. You can't beat a good workout buddy.

At the end of the date (?), Kayla gave Hal a kiss on the cheek. It's possible this was taken for more than intended: a friendly thanks for a fun evening.
Months later, Hal and Kayla bumped into each other in a corridor, and [https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-eagle/8dfu5sGXEyI/1nM9Js70AQAJ|Hal asked Kayla out on an actual, official date].

Chloe lives across the hall from Kayla's quarters, so the pair most likely would have become friends anyway. The fact that they experienced unprecedented levels and variations of chroniton radiation that caused the girls' hands to glow faintly when near to each other is just icing on the friendship cake.

Her keep eye for security measures inspired Kayla to include Maddi in the small circle of people in on discussions of her ship design project. In short, Kayla trusts Maddi with her life.

Charlie was originally a stow-away on the Eagle, and after a lengthy series of events, it was decided that she would have the brightest future if she were entered into Starfleet Child Services and then into a foster home. Kayla, having another errand to tend to at SB281, volunteered to escort Miss McQueen there from Lightside Station, where the Eagle was docked on shore leave. En route to the station, Kayla and Charlie bonded deeply and immediately. Kayla obtained permission from Captain Oddas, then upon arrival at the station entered Charlie into the SFCS and applied for guardianship of her at the same time. Love at first sight is not exclusively for romantic relationships.

====236206.13 - Kayla's parents meet====
Nestled in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, Earth is a lake of middling size called Cascade Lake. The natural beauty is what drew Leanna Marsh to this remote region. For Gulliver Drex, it was a chance to get away from the rigors of academia. He had booked a "retreat to the past" at one of the small inns that bordered the lake, but soon found that for all his brilliance when it came to quantum physics, the nature of temporal entanglement, or the relationship of graviton pulses of black holes and their effects on wormhole stability, he was not exactly the "outdoorsy" type. Dr. Drex decided to take advantage of one of the classes offered at the resort: a painting class. The class instructor was a gorgeous young woman named Leanna. They were married the next autumn, and bought a house on the lake where they met.

====2372-2385 - Childhood====
Over the next ten years, their family grew. The couple had four boys and one girl: Kayla. As a child, Kayla had a knack for turning up in impossible places - on the roof, inside the antique grandfather clock in the hall, or in the back room of the local transport station. Whenever questioned about what she was doing there, her answer would always be, "Figuring stuff out." Her childhood was a very happy time, as her parents were constantly supportive of her becoming the individual she was meant to be, and her brothers always looking out for her.

When she was 13 years old, Kayla was at the lake with a friend. This friend had a different afternoon in mind than Kayla did, and tried making inappropriate advances toward her. Michael, one of Kayla's brothers, was nearby and heard a commotion. Sensing his little sister was in trouble, he dropped his fishing rod and ran to aid her. By the time he arrived though, Kayla had not only diffused the situation, but actually turned it completely around. The scene Michael saw as he breached the treeline was his (relatively short) sister standing with her foot on the neck of a boy who clutched his ribs (3 broken it was later discovered) and blood streaming from his nose as she growled down at him, "I. said. no."

====2385-2389 - High school====
In high school, Kayla frustrated her teachers by asking questions that challenged their understanding of the subjects they taught. Her AP Stellar Cartography teacher put a note in her permanent record commenting that Kayla was, "constantly making additions to her maps that were not known astral phenomena." When her father reviewed her homework however, he saw the graceful curves as what they were: visual representations of quantum entanglement of dark matter. Kayla remembers her father laughing to himself and saying, "She already knows more than them," smiling at her, then making her favorite dinner: pizza. She graduated valedictorian from her high school, and it seemed she could go to any institute of higher learning she desired. Kayla chose Starfleet.

====239108.08-239510.31 - Starfleet Academy====
Starfleet Academy was like living in a dream for Kayla. Every professor, every class, every cadet challenged her in new and interesting ways, and Kayla rose time and again to the challenge. Double majoring in Physics and Stellar Cartography, Kayla worked tirelessly maintaining a near-perfect GPA. The one less-than-perfect grade she received was a B in SURV110 (Environmental Suits and Zero-G Training). She really did not like the feeling of not knowing where "down" was. In spite of her rigorous study, Kayla managed to make a few good friends at the Academy. She didn't date while enrolled, opting to focus solely on studies and friendships.

====239511.02-Current - USS Eagle====
Fresh from the Academy, Kayla reported for duty on the USS Eagle just in time to be a member of the re-inaugural crew. She was immediately enamored with and impressed by the ship and her crew. The Eagle's mission took them out into the Aavaro Wilds, where in a partnership with the Mithgil (a previously unknown species), they played a key role in saving a pre-warp civilization (the Verellians) fro. Extinction via brain-eating virus. ([[Mithgiln in the Wild (USS Eagle)]])

Kayla was part of the away team that went the surface of Verellia to collect a sample of the virus and determine the cause of the outbreak. She collected the sample shortly after beaming down, and was later involved in rescuing Lieutenant Choi from the Aggregate forces that had kidnapped him. In retrospect, Kayla realized that some of her decisions while on the surface were made hastily and could have endangered the lives of the rest of her team. Fortunately, they all returned safely to the Eagle, but she made a mental note to think before acting next time.

|BLURB=The Cardassian Democratic Union has asked the Federation for assistance in retrieving an ancient artifact on Edrov VII. The USS Eagle Has been sent to aid in the recovery.

Kayla and Ensign Collins were joined in the astrometrics lab by two enlisted crewmen to get a first peek at the 3rd moon of the 7th planet in the Edrov system. The display was startlingly beautiful, but a bit ... off. After adjusting the sensors, the science team discovered the energy being sent from the moon to the gas giant it orbited was causing a Jovian ignition - turning the gas giant into a new star - but doing so in temporal bursts.

After the away team had entered the pyramid-like structure that housed the Heart (as the artifact had come to be known), Kayla and Ensign Waters took the shuttle Condor out to take readings of the energy transfer beam. Due to the moon's defensive system however, they were unable to do so from a safe distance. The Eagle had been displaced in time, and the two young officers on the shuttle realized their only chance of rescuing both the away team and bring the Eagle back was to fly INSIDE the energy beam to the surface of the moon.

They managed to take off again from the surface, but didn't have enough to both trigger the necessary chroniton wave and attain a stable orbit. To further complicate matters, it seemed the whole moon was breaking up without the Heart. Kayla was knocked unconscious, but some quick thinking from Ensign Collins, some skilled flying by Ensign Waters, and expert marksmanship by Commander Pavlova solved several problems at once, and the day was saved.

|BLURB=The USS Eagle responds to a distress signal from a freighter carrying passengers.

After encountering a freighter carrying an unusual number of passengers, the Eagle was soon "greeted" by a number of probes from a nearby civilization known as "The People." Shortly after arriving at the People's homeworld, the Eagle was scanned and several crewmen including Commander Oddas were abducted due to some physiological abnormalities.

The People, it turned out, have a strict doctrine of purity that requires anything less than "pure and perfect" genetic material to be "recycled" and redistributed into the society as sustenance. This was the plan for the abducted Eagle crew. A rescue mission was mounted, resulting in the captives being released, and the recycling facility being destroyed.

|BLURB=During a test of the Warp XV drive, the Eagle finds itself in another universe, facing an unknown alien race in an unfamiliar setting

Shortly after reaching a stable velocity of warp 11, the Eagle was pulled out of warp when the warp bubble was disrupted by a unexpected disturbance. Once out of warp, the ship was pulled by a gravitational well and forced to make an emergency landing on a strange mass which was later discovered to be a sacred Shrine of the individuals inhabiting this "Layer" - either a pocket universe or a whole separate universe the Eagle had fallen into.

Eventually, the Eagle was able to break free of the Shrine's pull be resorting to primitive improvised propulsion means, and they opened up a line of communication with the Cam'roon - the alien vessel - in order to determine not only how to return the Eagle to its proper universe, but also how to prevent further incursions into this Layer.

|BLURB=Shortly after an awards ceremony at The Spike, explosions shook the station, launching the crew of the USS Eagle into an investigation as to the source of the explosions.

After the bombing at the Spike, the Eagle responded to a Mithgiln distress call, which led to a presumed lost Cardassian base. The inhabitants were a cult-like group led my one Krieid Jabt, self-proclaimed "Kai of Guls." His initial charismatic and friendly demeanor devolved into madness as the crew of the Eagle refused to convert to Jabt's twisted faith in the "Wraiths."

The Eagle and her crew suffered from a bombardment of Delta waves, which altered the behavior of the crew, and rendered the ship nearly defenseless.

He and Kayla met in a professional context, but during a shore leave at The Spike, the two of them visited La Cantina Estrella where they shared a lovely evening of dinner, drinks, and dancing. At the end of the date (?), Kayla gave Hal a kiss on the cheek. It's possible this was taken for more than intended: a friendly thanks for a fun evening. Months later, Hal and Kayla bumped into each other in a corridor, and [https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-eagle/8dfu5sGXEyI/1nM9Js70AQAJ

Chloe lives across the hall from Kayla's quarters, so the pair most likely would have become friends anyway. The fact that they experienced unprecedented levels and variations of chroniton radiation that caused the girls' hands to glow faintly when near to each other is just icing on the friendship cake.

A True Friend

Kayla and Maddi (sometimes "Mads") met while at the Academy. From their first meeting (a sparring match) to attending the only party Kayla went to at the Academy together, Maddi came to be one of Kayla's closest and most trusted friends. Her keep eye for security measures inspired Kayla to include Maddi in the small circle of people in on discussions of her ship design project. In short, Kayla trusts Maddi with her life.

Brought Together by Forces Larger Than Ourselves

Chronological History

236206.13 - Kayla's parents meet

2372-2385 - Childhood

The scene Michael saw as he breached the treeline was his (relatively short) sister standing with her foot on the neck of a boy who clutched his ribs (3 broken it was later discovered) and blood streaming from his nose as she growled down at him, "I. said. no."

2385-2389 - High school

239108.08-239510.31 - Starfleet Academy

239511.02-Current - USS Eagle

Fresh from the Academy, Kayla reported for duty on the USS Eagle just in time to be a member of the re-inaugural crew. She was immediately enamored with and impressed by the ship and her crew. The Eagle's mission took them out into the Aavaro Wilds, where in a partnership with the Mithgil (a previously unknown species), they played a key role in saving a pre-warp civilization (the Verellians) fro. Extinction via brain-eating virus. (Mithgiln in the Wild (USS Eagle))

Missions

Gomtuu.jpg

Mithgiln in the Wild (USS Eagle)
239510.31-239601.03

During the Eagle's first mission in the Aavaro Wilds they encounter two new species, the Mithgiln and the Verellians. The former helping the latter with a plague the crew must decide how, and if, they can help.

Cardassian.jpg

'Ordering' History (USS Eagle)
239601.03-239602.15

The Cardassian Democratic Union has asked the Federation for assistance in retrieving an ancient artifact on Edrov VII.

ThePeople.png

Cleanliness Protocol (USS Eagle)
239603.07-239604.24

The USS Eagle responds to a distress signal from a freighter carrying passengers.

Holy Orders Thumbnail.jpg

Holy Orders (USS Eagle)
239606.10-239607.28

During a test of the Warp XV drive, the Eagle finds itself in another universe, facing an unknown alien race in an unfamiliar setting

The Hidden Missionaries Orb.png

The Hidden Missionaries (USS Eagle)
239608.23-239611.03

Shortly after an awards ceremony at The Spike, explosions shook the station, launching the crew of the USS Eagle into an investigation as to the source of the explosions.
