Deep Space 224 is currently the only station in the [[Borderlands]] that is Active.  There is a small researcher outpost in The Borderlands. Outpost 89 Delta, is an Intelligence Research Platform.  It is less than one light year from Deep Space 224, not well armed it is protected by the six runabouts assigned to it and patrols from fighter craft of Deep Space 224.

Deep Space 224

Originally commissioned in 2320, Deep Space 224 is a starbase located in The Borderlands close to Klingon space, and nearby to a neutron star by the name of Klatax. The station was almost mothballed and on a closer list for several decades until the Dominion War. The station was later seized by the Klingons and was held as a Trophy for a little less than a year until retaken by the Federation. The Station was reactivated into service on star date 2397.16, and now serves as the Center of federation interests in the region as well as a frequent stop for the USS Artemis; a Federation vessel patrolling the region. Its defenses are fairly scarce considering the stations age, and as such Starfleet has assigned six runabouts and The 417th Fighter Wing for protection.

Composition

The station consists of 397 decks with crew of roughly five thousand Starfleet personnel, and almost six thousand civilians at any given moment. Situated in an ideal position to observe the scientific phenomena inside the Borderlands region, the Station is home to a contingent of Vulcan Science Academy representatives who operate out of a small section of the station reserved for scientific study. This made the Station a moderately traveled hub for scientists as well as a pit stop for science vessels from different planets. As a result, the Station houses a variety of merchant and small business shops spread across the lower levels hosted by a variety of species. It is said that if the Federation had mothballed the station, merchants would have bartered for it to remain in operation with Starfleet in a short period.

Outpost 89 Delta

A small research facility designated Outpost 89 Delta sits less than one light year away from Deep Space 224. It is home to a contingent of Starfleet Intelligence of unknown size and intention. The outpost relies on DS224 for supplies and logistical support as well as protection. Regular patrols from the Station's contingent of runabouts and The 417th Fighter Wing serve as deterrents for any malicious intent. Starfleet Intelligence has not seen fit to open the outpost to regular Starfleet or civilian personnel, and as such maintains a perimeter of which no unauthorized craft are allowed to enter.
