Old Mc Bolen has a farm
Paoike Colony on Drever IV is in a pickle. Less than ten years ago the colony was founded by Adirim Bolen. Things went well until recently. Without any change to care, environment and such their crops have begun to get sick and die which limits their food supplies. That is particularly bad because the farms are what keeps them fed. This is just the beginning. Once the crops get sick the livestock can't be fed, which will take away that food supply as well. So they asked for a specialist to check on the issue and that specialist has asked Starfleet for support. The specialist has determined that the issue is localized to this village and its vicinity, it also is not bacterial or a virus. So we can exclude a planet wide pandemic. The orders include that while we are there to have a look at the infrastructure and general state of the colony, but our main focus will be the issues at hand. [1]

Act 1
The Constitution Crew ends their shoreleave on Arentis and returns to the Constitution, where they are informed of the new mission, while being en route to the Drever System. Upon arrival everyone is given a task to get going as soon as they arrive.
Tasks given to the Departments
- Science
- Inform the botanists and ask them to join to check on the plant life
- Scan the location for composition, contamination, pollution and the like.
- Medical
- Inform the Vet to check on the livestock
- Check on the inhabitants to make sure that they are alright.
- Counseling
- Have a look around, talk with the people see how they are doing, provide comforting words. Check for distress, anxiety and the like.
- If anything more serious seems to be brewing let Jalana know.
- Engineering and Operations
- Have a look at their equipment, see if anything is broken, needs replacement or repairs and what we can provide to help out there.
- Don't offer improvements or over the top replacements. As a private endeavour there are no freebies without cooperation by the colony or the need for it. The leader should take care of that part.
- Security and Tacical
- Find out about recent events, possible enemies and such. Ask around the village, see if any of the inhabitants have something to say that can be brought to Mister Bolen.
- Laria
- Have a look around the place
- Contact person or udpates from the teams
- Jalana and Diz'mim
- Meeting with Bolen and the Scientist
While the crew is out collecting information they collect different theories on what has happened to the plants. That is when they receive a warning for a rainstorm from the Constitution and the weather forecast on the local radio. Nothing too serious, so nothing to worry about.
Act 2
When the rain starts it quickly become clear that the forecast was only partly right. It is a rainstorm, but that is not all. Thunder, lightning and hail follow suit. The lightning striking in the forest also leads to a large creature being spooked and breaking through the defense perimeter now rampant in the village. The creature damages some buildings and other structures, and injures Sherana and Ellie Park.
Security is ready to jump right in and uses heavy tranq darts to pacify the creatures, eliminating the danger with the creature alive for Thoth to check out. Meanwhile the teams - while most of them in safety of buildings - continue their search for answers. Once the hailstorm subsides the teams are called for a debrief on the Plaza.
Act 3
Several teams have found possible causes for the dying of plants. After Jalana collects all the information she is giving out tasks for the teams.
Findings during research
- Radioactive Mushrooms (fungi)/Soil samples
- The soil in the colony has not shown any traces of radiation, though the fungi may push something else through the soil and root system. Stapledon had found occasional hotspots through the village that might be explained by that.
- Puffballs were found that were not affected by the illness, possible immunity.
- The Kameryan family brought crops from their home planet that were planted in the colony
- N'veri, the Kameryan child, suddenly fell ill. It may or may not be related
- Bolen employed a new shipping Company (Deep Rockets Delivery Service) that may have brought in something new to the planet like pesticides or other material.

Epilogue
The crew continues to test their findings and discover that the pesticide found in the ground, plants and mushrooms is indeed the cause of the problems. They concoct a solution to bind the compound and flush it out of the colony's system through the Mycorrhizal network. Process is made, while the rest of the colony is being repaired. While the plants and soil will need some time to recover it will lead to the colony being able to regrow plants at a later point. Until then they find new locations to plant their crops are helped out with replicators and assistance in strengthening their power supplies, as well as improvements on their infrastructure within means. The affected colonists are treated against pesticide poisoning as well and are on the route to recovery.
Drever IV
This information has been gathered during the mission and is available to all players.
Colony
The location for the colony was carefully chosen. The planet did not have inhabitants until about 2392 when Adirim Bolen founded Paoike Colony. He oversaw much of the surveys personally to make sure there was no indigenous sentient life or other settlements.[2] According to one of the inhabitants -palaeoarchaeologist Yasam- while unhabited in form of humanoid life, there has been life on Drever IV for at least two million years. Every time a particular development should have happened to allow humanoid life it didn't happen. It is unclear if it was lost, blocked, didn't make it to other predators or other reasons. According to Yasam it "seems this planet doesn't want humanoid life and now we're forcing it into it." [3]
As of 2402 the colony has 100 inhabitants of various species and ages.
Buildings
The homes of colonists are round buildings constructed of building kits that are made to look like wood to fit into the environment.
There are a few buildings a bit outside of town from the early days. The original power generation plant, a small landing strip for larger transports, some expansions that never took off. All abandoned for some time now as their functions were replaced or no longer needed, left overs from initial plans for the colony that didn't work out. [4]
The layout of the colony had changed two times, and not long ago focused on a more organized pattern, probably due to some of their needs being covered and being able to focus more on organization than on survival. It is at this point unknown if it was because of Mr. Bolen's work or just a collective integration of the inhabitants of the colony. [5]
Power Generation
The cololny's power it provided by a solar grid a few minutes walk from Thoth's home. It was a large area that received plenty of sunlight to power the homes. Powerlines are below ground prividing the colony with the energy needed. Despite that the supplies are limited and are not wasted. [6]
Weather Conditions
Weather varies depending on season and other factors as on many other plants. Storms are not too uncommon.
Environment
Domestic animals and farm animals are partly in pens, and partly walk freely in the village. Fields for crops are spread through the village to utilize the room as much as possible. The whole colony is surrounded by a large forest.
Forest
The forest around Paoike is home to various wildlife that the local Zoologist Thoth researches and catalogs. He also records episodes of his series on wild animals of Drever IV there. [7]
The edge of the forest is secured by a perimeter of defense mechanisms to keep the creatures of the forest out of the colony. [8]
The perimeter includes laser triggered mechanisms called vonwI' 'uD'a' used by Klingons, that can be connected to any mechanism. The laser is like a primitive trip wire but invisible and one doesn't feel it when stepping through it. It is easy to hide the emitter pins -for example between or under foliage- to not be seen. [9] The perimeter was set out by Thoth -the resident zoologist- after being hired for that by Bolen. [10]
Fauna
Blood Claws
Blood Claws are red furry predators with long red claws. Having grown arrogant in their position at the top of the food chain they do not expect their own method of hunting turned against them. They use stealth in their hunt, sneaking upon their prey and then sink the long claws right into their prey's back. [11]
Walking Trees
Walking Trees are similar, although, far larger, to the walking stick bugs of Earth. While on the surface they had similarities internally they were very different in order to support their large size. One of these differences is their complicated respiratory system, which allowed the insects of Drever IV to get much larger without high levels of oxygen. Walking Trees eat leaves and bushes. [12] To move them to a different location it is sufficient to simply push them, though their offspring is very delicate and better be carried. [13]
wejpuH yotlh
Large rainbow colored flying animal with a wing span of about two meters. They don't have all the characteristics to classify them as either a bird or a reptile. They are something of an inbetween state of the two. Their wings allow them to easily catch the aircurrents. The pattern of colors on their wings are different for each individual so they can identify their kin and confuse their enemies. When they hunt they use their large mouths to simply scoop up their prey. [14]
Vryar
Water dwelling birds. Migrated earlier in 2402 than usual. [15]
Ash Spotted Mek'leth Tooth
A creature on Drever IV. Similar to the Long Tailed Mek'leth Tooth, though they have distintive roars. The name indicates that it has ash coloured spots and sharp teeth. They do not leave Methane traces. [16]
Long Tailed Mek'leth Tooth
A creature on Drever IV. Similar to the Ash Spotted Mek'leth Tooth, though they have distintive roars. The name indicates that it has a long tail and sharp teeth. They do not leave Methane traces. [17]
Unnamed large creature
A large creature living in the woods, making nearby ground shake with its running steps. Its roar is different from the Mek'leth Tooth. [18] It is about the size of an elephant (though not its shape), and is covered with fur. It gets scared if lightning hits too close nearby, possibly fear of fire. [19]
Flora
Lerr Trees
Trees native to Drever IV, in full bloom in April. [20]
Puffballs
Plants on Drever IV. These plants did not show signs of sickness, contrary to other plantlife, and might be resistant. Examples were taken to check if their resistance might be able to help other plantlife. [21]
Southern Fungus
Native to the southern hemisphere of Drever IV. Usually harmless fungus, that however, releases toxic spores when it comes in touch with the local rainfall, that is lethal to some fauna. [22]
