“But do not ask me where I am going as I travel in this limitless world, where every step I take is my home.”

Dōgen

Azura Ada is currently serving as Chief Science Officer aboard the USS Constitution-B. She originates from a different quantum reality. Upon arrival in 2399, she swapped places with Lazarus Davis due to a miscalculation in a high-energy particle experiment onboard the USS Constitution-B. Aside from different names and genders, they share a nearly identical history and service record.

Appearance

  • Height: 5' 9"

Relationships

  • Parents: Derek, 56, a pipe fitter; Rita, 56, a naturist
  • Siblings: Anissa, sister, 29, on Earth - a graduate student, studying epidemiology
  • Connections: see below

Queen: Lazarus Davis's wife, and effectively identical to the version of Queen in Azura's reality; a Linarian expat she met on Xatrac City.

Davy Jones (2364-2395): Childhood friend from Earth. The two of them were closer than brothers during their formative years and beyond. Jones was a major positive influence on Azura, always encouraging her and pushing her to be a better person. Azura is a bit lost without him.

Background

Azura Ada grew up on Earth, the eldest child of Derek and Rita Davis. At the age of 16, after surviving a harrowing medical trauma, she felt that her purpose in life was renewed and thus gave herself a new name – borrowing from a biblical story of a man resurrected. Azura went through high school and her undergrad experience because it was what she was supposed to do, but the aforementioned medical trauma during high school helped Azura realize that life is precious and perhaps too short to simply go with the flow. Against the objections of her parents, Azura pursued a PhD in cognitive science where she explored her interests of embodied cognition.

During her time in academia, Azura found herself empowered and ready to tackle the world. She met a Vulcan named Kovar while writing her dissertation, which lead her down a path of self-discovery: sexuality, neurodivergence, and gender. This brought a level of peace and wholeness to Azura like she's never known.

After completing her PhD, she enrolled in Starfleet Academy. She found the experience equally rewarding and challenging. Learning to be a science officer was a fun, new challenge. After being so steeped in the social sciences, having a chance to learn so much about the physical sciences was exciting. Plus her expertise as a research psychologist offered some relatively unique affordances as a chief science officer, as most chief science officers come from physical science disciplines.

In her spare time, Azura is a songwriter and composer, as well as an avid music listener. She traces her musical preferences to a series of late 20th through mid 21st century Earth musicians and composers. Azura also dabbles in writing holoprograms that live between typical holonovel conventions and art.

Azura takes a degree of fascination in inspecting the life of the man she swapped places with, but she sometimes finds it overwhelming to empathize with the pain she knows he carries with him. She wonders how he's adjusting to stepping into her life. At present, there are no known means of communication with Lazarus.

Sheng Emitter

Following her arrival at in this universe, Azura struggled to acclimate and became increasingly emotional. During The Sincerest Form, when Iotian separatists decided to try and recreate the NCC 1701 Enterprise and pose as her famous crew, Azura brutally attacked an Iotian that had attempted to murder several people with an Earth-style Tommy Gun. Following the attack, she was recalled to Daystrom Institute for study. Due to her arrival from a different quantum universe, the matter that comprised her body existed in a different quantum resonance than the matter in the prime universe. This disrupted low-level processes in her nervous system. The effects of the disruption caused her to become unpredictable and violent.

Following several months of testing and research, a team of researchers led by a Dr. Sheng created a mobile emitter for her to wear that effectively recalibrated her quantum resonance to be compatible with the prime universe. Azura does not fully understand the nuances of the science, but understands that it emits low levels of exotic radiation throughout her body. This does make her easier to pick up on sensors, but the exotic radiation is not part of any known standard sensor protocols.

Without the emitter, the beneficial effects wear off over the course of hours, and Azura should be able to maintain emotional regulation for "a few days" without the emitter. However, she quickly feels sick from the lack of the emitter and suffers headaches, nausea, and dizziness.

She wears the emitter on her left shoulder, and it is a small, metallic device. It bears a vague resemblance to the mobile emitter worn by The Doctor aboard the USS Voyager.

Awards DutyPost CochraneAward 2011.jpg
Cochrane Award 2398
USS Constitution-B
"Given to those Science officers who have contributed greatly to the advance of science in the midst of their Starfleet career, by staying knowledgeable about their field, participating in the community of science, but most importantly, by placing their knowledge at the service of their ship and its mission."
O'Brien Award.png
O'Brien Award 2398
USS Constitution-B
"The real-life trials and tribulations of the last year have seen several crew members take leave, including members of the sim staff, which left a big hole in the OOC support of our game. One particular player stepped up to fill that hole with not just duty but enthusiasm, and we wouldn’t have the game where it is now without her."
Awards General NebulaBar 2011.jpg
Nebula Bar 2398
USS Constitution-B
"Our most recent mission started with a very simple premise, and we all know what happened next. In the same way, our simple setting concept - a nebula and nearby dilithium mine - were developed further into a complex location with its own physical laws and limitations."
Laudean Commendation.png
Laudean Commendation 2398
USS Constitution-B
"In writing we aren’t bound by the physical constraints of human actors, and the player of Lazarus Davis, took full advantage of that in her creation of the Endaasi, their fascinating culture and their exciting world. She put her heart and soul into these people, and it showed."
Awards General BPlot 2011.jpg
B-Plot Award 2398
USS Constitution-B
"The last year has really seen our Chief Science Officer’s personal life turned upside down, and I can’t wait to see what happens next."
Awards General Tosma1 2011.jpg
TOSMA 2397
USS Constitution-B
"She has written the growth of her character exploring his history, relationships and moving towards a senior role in the science department [...] She has involved other characters along the way, with Davis in character asking for advice from senior crew members and providing tags for new ones. She also arranged a number of larger events to get the crew more involved [...] On top of that she has been involved in OOC activities getting involved with staff and being on the podcast team."
Awards The Khan Award.png
Khan Award 2397
USS Constitution-B
"[T]he hallmark of this character is how much everyone onboard enjoys playing off him. While Skepus isn't blatantly evil, his narrow minded logic and love for the letter of the law [...] provides the perfect opportunity for players to explore their own characters POV with Skepus as a foil. It has been particularly entertaining to see Skepus vs. Saveron showing two very different characterizations of Vulcan logic!"
Awards General SheathedSword 2011.jpg
Sheathed Sword 2396
USS Constitution-B
For "exploring the impact of seeing trauma to his colleagues and the outpost falling apart about him. [...] Despite the efforts of Sickbay he still has scars, mental and physical, and they appear periodically in his current sims, showing how the injury and trauma affected and changed him.”
