The USS Invicta, NCC-81407, is a state-of-the-art diplomatic courier and explorer of the Cardiff class. From 2392 to 2395, the Invicta served as the lead ship of the Invicta Expedition, a multi-year deep space exploration mission at the directive of the Federation President, embarking from the experimental diplomatic installation Astrofori One in the Menthar Corridor. She was commanded during this time by Flt. Captain Aron Kells, Captain Joseph Washington, and briefly, Commander Roshanara Rahman.

Little to nothing was known about the history of the region and the major species and polities that existed to the galactic west of known space. In short, the time was ripe for exploration.
