Whether it was about his friends or his career choices, his father always had something to complain. He always was either at work or behind his newspaper. Pholin had always looked up to his dad, but once he went through puberty, he found there was nothing to look up to. Bem was a marine admiral; he had been for almost twenty. The thing he liked most about his dad was his humor: dry and dirty.

They were both open and always ready to talk; they also always had a smile on their face. Pholin - even to this day - does not understand the relationship between his parents; they never agreed on anything. That was another reason he was closer to his mom, whenever his dad disagreed with him, his mom agreed. She also works for the marine and is the medical officer about her ship.

| Both his parents disagreed when he decided not to apply for the marine after his studies, It took him two years to convince his parents it was what he wanted. It was a stressful time for him since he had no one to support his decision and sometimes questioned if this even was the thing he wanted. When he decided to join Starfleet Academy, he didn't need to try to convince them. His parents had been anti-federation since Denobula applied to join the Federation. Becoming the face of it ''voluntarily'', that was just unacceptable. He has now not spoken to his parents for four and a half years.

| His smaller brother is called '''Fren''', just {{age|2348|08|22}} years old. Where Pholin was more drawn to his mother, Fren was closer to his father. He was almost as conservative and grumpy as his dad. During their childhood, they liked and played with each other a lot. They were good friends until Pholin's decision not to go into the marine, which turned him against Pholin. Fren joined the Marine just like their parents did and didn't speak with him during his stay on Bajor. And where Pholin's parents were happy when he returned to Denobula, Fren was not. He distanced himself from Pholin and sometimes plain ignored him.

| Things have changed for the better when Pholin applied for the Academy. Fren had felt bored in the Marine for a couple of years and Pholin making a life change encouraged him to do to. He has not yet told their parents, but Fren is planning on leaving the Marine.
