Reserved is the perfect word to describe her. It is not so much shyness as a certain, quite pushed, modesty which has one hand around her throat. Emmanuelle has picked up the habit to not necessarily talk unless she is spoken to. The latter is as good a quality as it is an annoying quirk. When it comes to work, one might call her quite professional. In personal life, however, people often tell her to speak more, voice her opinion, give a piece of her mind. But it's not how she was brought up, and now it is probably too late to change anything. So no, by no means is she shy - simply someone quiet.

She will usually prefer nodding when answering a question, in the alternative of actually saying something. Such mannerisms being the consequences of her father's discipline, and her brother's cold exterior. Nonetheless, when one gets to know her, she proves to be a cheerful girl, smiling quite a bit, and laughing at everything. Never the matter the joke, good or horrid, she'll giggle.

She has the habit of fidgeting with the material of her clothing whenever she is faced with an odd situation, as well as staring passionately at her shoes. Blushing is also part of the story. Tell her a nasty tale, and she'll turn scarlet. The same goes when encountering someone of an obviously higher rank than her on a time other than the working one. This said, yes she is indeed reserved - still, this doesn't make her a recluse. She's never been one. Emmanuelle has her own circle of friends; granted, not a particularly large one, but undoubtedly loyal.

History:

Emmanuelle was born in Upper Austria, in a town of the name of Steyr, to parents with a considerable age difference. The latter fact led to the family climate being tense, and control over her only increasing as time flew by. The consequences of such control becoming her quiet character. Her father had left his previous wife in order to marry her mother – a younger woman after whom she was named – and along with her a son. Over the years, Emmanuelle saw her much older half-brother only during family gatherings, and so they never really grew close. She had always been more or less impartial towards him, wishing even for certain affinity, but the man had never agreed to meet her halfway. Joining Starfleet was seen by her as an opportunity to break free more than anything else. Her good academic record only came in hand.

Education:

Medicine never was a calling. She chose the field because of her interest in mathematics and biology. Truly, she would have gladly gone into something as quiet as immunology. Being locked in a laboratory, developing vaccines, all day long actually seemed like a pleasant enough lifelong occupation. However, a remark from her half-brother – whose approval she always sought even though the latter openly disliked her, and for whom she never experienced genuine affection – changed everything. A simple breathed sentence stating that away from everyone's sight was the best thing for her, made Emmanuelle apply for medicine. Granted, it did work out pretty well. After the few first months at the Academy, she grew to enjoy it very much.

While there, she took a special liking to medical Immunology, in which she majored.

Prior all that, Emmanuelle had been home-schooled her entire life. The repetitive contact with people much older than she, as well as a meaningful absence of peers, were what crafter her character. Thus, she became someone with respect as the main value. After the simple years, the emphasis of her teaching had been put on concrete sciences. It is during her secondary years that she got the fever of numbers. Her father often told her that he did not desire her to go into, what he called, 'humanistic' professions. His own career and reputation in psychology took a time to build. As for her mother, hers happened to be a lucky shot. Needless to say, she made her parents very proud with her academic choice - for of course, they did not know the veritable reason of her going into medicine. Her father took the credit for himself, and to this day never misses to tell everyone how his daughter became a medic 'just because of him !'

Family History:

Emmanuelle was born in Upper Austria, in a little ancient town of the name of Steyr. Her family while not part of a so-called elite, remained a privileged one and the same could be said of her upbringing. Child to parents with a considerable age difference, she grew up in a tense, severely controlled environment.

With a Behavioural Psychology professor for a father, she never did have much to say in the matter of her personal choices. He is not, however, to be confused with a penurious personage for he is a caring, loving man – simply someone who knows exactly how his children are to be raised. Her mother, on the contrary, is a more frivolous soul, so to speak. A journalist, she never spent much time with her daughter while the latter was growing up. But she too lavished the girl with gifts upon return. Emmanuelle's family cherishes discipline more than anything else – but it doesn't mean that love isn't to be shown.

In every clan, there is a black sheep. The one that stand apart. In Emmanuelle's case, it is her half brother. Lenhard Meissnitzer is the son of the previous failed marriage of their common father. He is considerably older than his sister, already possessing a doctorate in Civil Law and working for a successful firm. His mother, while not exactly a vile woman, did grow to ignore her ex-husband's new family. Emmanuelle has her doubts that the reason her half-brother hates her are Agathe Meissnitzer's inventions. He never truly acknowledged her; their rare moments of interaction occurred during family gatherings. She did try to reach out to him – for it seemed the right thing to do- but he refused to meet her halfway. She doesn't exactly nourish warm feelings toward him; they've never had the opportunity to grow close. Perhaps, one day. Nevertheless, it is his rejection of accepting her into his life that led her to consider – and later chose – a Starfleet career. With nothing else to cling to in her native town, she was free to leave.
