Welcome to the home of the '''Species Development Committee'''. We are responsible for the creation of new species, updating old species and doing rewrites on all species that may require it. Currently the '''SDC''' is busy rewriting most of the species entries on the [[ILI|Intelligent Lifeform Index]]. Anyone can be a member of this team. All we require is an interest in the various species found in the Star Trek universe.

Just joined UFOP: SB118, and want to help out? You've come to the right place! You must be a full Ensign before you can be a part of a team, but once you are, just head to the [http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/ufop-com-species/ Species Development Committee Yahoo! Group] and request membership.

Once you have become a member of the SDC you will be able to work on various species projects such as:
While the SDC is no longer active, anyone interested in updating and maintaining species wiki pages on the [[Intelligent Lifeform Index]] -- or any other wiki pages -- are invited to consider joining the [[118Wiki:Operations]] team.
*1) The creation of brand new species
*2) Expanding and rewriting old species entries
*3) Adding new data that has been created by players during their simming adventures
*4) Researching the internet for data regarding various species
 
==New or Rewritten Species==
All these projects go through a few simple steps.
*1) Research must be done to find any CANON data that is available. CANON data is anything found in a Star Trek TV episode, Star Trek Movie or written publication authorized by Star Trek, Paramount. This data '''MUST''' be included.
*2) A wiki page on our own SB118 wiki needs to be created for a new species or you will use the existing wiki page for a species that will be undergoing a rewrite.
*3) A under construction banner will be inserted at the top of the page. To do this you will use 2 {UC}
*4) A Species Template must be added to the SB118 wiki page for that species and then filled in starting with all CANON data first.

The Species Development Committee was responsible for building the Intelligent Lifeform Index, a complete listing of all species mentioned or shown in the television show or movies, and ensuring that the page for each species contained all the available canon information. Having completed its original mandate, this task force is now retired and inactive.

SDC Mandate

The SDC was dedicated to the overall improvement of every species entry on our own SB118 wiki, with the following goals:

  • To provide our players with the best resource available when picking a species to play or use in a sim.
  • That all new species created by this community can be preserved for future use.
  • That new ideas and concepts created during a simming adventure are saved and preserved for future use on the correct species wiki page.
