These are the personal logs of Ensign Donato Romero.

Assistant Chief Engineer's Log - Stardate: 238903.06

:: Romero sat down in front of the display screen, a smile beaming on his face. The stars streaked by outside the viewport behind him. ::

I am so excited! I'm finally getting stationed onboard a real starship, the Apollo. I thought it would be forever before I got here, but here I am, living the dream. Just a couple of more hours and I'll be meeting up with them in the Typhon Expanse. Why the heck they're out there, I don't know.

:: Romero suddenly became serious. ::

. . . but it's not my place to ask questions. You know I got promoted today? I'm officially an Ensign of the Federation Starfleet. It's weird how my getting stationed on a ship outweighs my promotion in my head. Especially when I could't have been put on a ship if I hand't gotten promoted.

:: He stared blankly in concentration, but after a few seconds he focused again. He glanced back to the rear cabin of the shuttle and hushed his voice. ::

Vid-Lotilija's onboard. I went to fleet preparation with her back on Starbase. She's kinda just barged on in, didn't really even say anything to me. She diffidently lacks people skills . . . and she's a bit old. I mean, not like an old lady, but middle-aged. Joining Starfleet just seems kind of a "young" thing. You know, something you do earlier in your life.

:: Romero thought for a moment. ::

She doesn't really even act like she wants to be here . . . I don't know, maybe she doesn't like her position of something.

:: He stared blankly again, but after awhile he smiled and playfully hit the console above him in mock frustration. ::

Ugh, this bucket-of-bolts shuttle can't move fast enough! I mean, Warp 2? Are you kidding me? Give me a couple of seconds on the outside and I'd have her at Warp 8!

:: Romero sighed. ::

Oh well, we'll get there soon. Romero Out.
