History

Latu was born on Gideon under the shadow of the great monument to the billions who died nearly a century earlier to make a future for their world possible. While his privileged and well respected parents gave him the very best teachers and other comforts he could ever desire, Latu always felt drawn to a different kind of life - one of adventure and excitement. And, a life built on serving a greater good, just as his fore-bearers did. Unfortunately, his upbringing provided little opportunity to pursue either of those things. His parents kept a close watch on him, and his bully of an older brother made it his business to keep Latu from ever truly expanding beyond the confines of his small life. As a result, he grew up physically weak. His mind, however, made up for those shortcomings. Soon, under the direction of one of his tutors, he began to prepare for an application to Starfleet. When he was accepted, his parents became furious that Latu had not discussed these plans with them, and all but disowned him when he refused to back off from his plans.

At the Academy, Latu flourished. Though he struggled with some courses - particularly those related to physical strength and coordination - he excelled in the sciences. Latu is now on the verge of completing the basic requirements for advanced degrees in medicine and biology.
