History

They have a fairly peaceful history, no real wars, upheavals or social unrest. Just a slow progressive development towards their current level of development.

By 2378 they had been admitted into the Federation. This was a fairly open and shut case that required very little consideration on the part of the Federation council.

In 2381, Rhaandarel was one of the planets attacked by the Borg. This made it particularly hard for Laarin Andos, Director of the Department of Temporal Investigations, to stop people attempting to time travel and stop the attack.

Government

They have had a single central government for over a thousand years. One where individuals are hired to work in entry level positions and then slowly work their way up till they become the head of a department or achieve a place on the council.

Description

The Rhaandarites are a long-lived, androgynous humanoid race noted for their prominent forehead lobes. They tend to be average height with slim, average bodies and most of them are fairly poor athletes.

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. What makes the Rhaandarites unusual is that they have a lifespan of several centuries and they don't really reach maturity until they are 150 or so.

Psychology

The Rhaandarites are a simple, gregarious people who are much better at taking orders than giving them. This goes along with their relaxed, laidback way of dealing with life. As a result they are not known for being aggressive. In fact the opposite is very true as they are considered to be very passive by nature. They tend to be very polite, considerate, respectful and helpful.

Religion

They have a rather simplified belief in the power of light to sustain life. This belief has been supported by the scientific fact that with out certain properties of light the possibility of a planet developing life is greatly reduced.

Their temples of contemplation are simple structures with windows designed to convert natural sunlight into iridescent colorful rainbows of light. This is done in such a way that regardless of the time of day as long as the sun shines there is a window there for the light to shine through.

There are no formal services. Each citizen may when they wish enter and sit, meditating calmly for as long as they wish.

Mythology

They have an extensive collection of tales and stories, although most species consider them boring and not worthy of the time spent to review them.

Society

Rhaandarites have a lifespan of several centuries and have a very complex social structure. While not well-known, most Rhaandarites in Starfleet service are considered "slow learners " or "problem cases" on their homeworld, and are thought to benefit from Starfleet's "simple" hierarchy.

Culture

They enjoy all most all forms of artistic expression including music. In fact this may be the only subject that could be considered exciting enough to spark wide spread reactions with in their population.

Customs

Due to their very long life spans they do not seem to have developed any truly unique customs.

Technology

Currently they are slightly behind most of the rest of the Federation member worlds when it comes to technology. They have no real drive or need to keep abreast of the most current technological advances. Strangely enough they excel at temporal science. Being so long lived they have a unusual intuitive understanding of how time works.

Economy

They have a very stable economy and long standing trade deals with numerous other species.

Military

They do not have and never have had any real military forces. They have never needed one. Even their police force is considered by most other species to be very passive. This may have to do with the fact their they normally are never armed in any way.

Federation Intelligence Files

Several Rhaandarites were present at the air tram station in San Francisco on stardate 7410.2. They were seen speaking to an Arcturian on the lower platform in the background when James T. Kirk and Sonak parted ways at the top of the escalator.

A Rhaandarite ensign served aboard the USS Enterprise during its refit. Also, during the period, a Rhaandarite served aboard the orbital office complex.

Noted Rhaandarites include Starfleet officers Vaylin Zaand and Haarv, both of the USS Enterprise.
