Personal History
Rick Andros Hudgens was born aboard the Brobian Star, a private passenger ship bound for Earth on stardate 237009.20 at 1321 hours. His mother and father settled on the man-made island of Gereise and Rick attended standard human nursery and pre-schools until the age of 5 when he was inducted to a regular earth primary school.
When Rick was 8 his father was seconded to Sattelion Station with remit to return within two years. When their father did not return Rick’s older (18 at the time) brother Hershel travelled to the station. Both father and brother are believed to have perished in the Sattelion Station incident which is publicly documented. Rick, entering his 11th year, did not take this event well and began to decline socially and behaviorally.
After finishing his primary schooling Rick attended a reform academy aimed at youths with minor infringements. Rick’s detachment from his mother affected him even more profoundly and, after causing some less serious troubles in his initial year, he began to focus more clearly on his interests. Engineering was a minor part of the curriculum at the reform school which was part funded, and therefore directed, by the Amborn Science Institute but it was engineering class where Rick met Doctor Wilbur Freesh. Doctor Freesh managed to bond with Rick and help him understand that focusing his energies would not only reunite him with his mother but enable them both to benefit from his actions. Doctor Freesh became a close friend and advisor to Rick who responded to the man like a second father.
Rick continued to display bursts of aggression and distrust during his school years but managed to attune his passion to engineering and electrical design to the extent of an endorsement from Doctor Freesh for him to attend Starfleet Academy and particular the School of Engineering. Rick had improved his behavior and grades to pass with the necessary scores the Academy required. He continued to improve at the Academy and, while he did not excel himself in any field, he obtained a firm understanding of engineering principles with regards to Starship construction, design and handling, as well as an amateur interest in AI systems and functionality.
Rick applied for cadet status in Starfleet and passed his entrance exam under the tutelage of Lieutenant Commanders Eerie, of the USS Victory, and Roshanara Rahman, of the USS Garuda. He was immediately sent to the Federation Embassy on Duronis II to await his posting as Ensign in Engineering aboard the USS Victory.
