"We are but a shadow of what we hoped to become."
a Debrune proverb.
The Debrune are a people who have become scattered across both the Alpha and Beta quadrants with many outposts and colonies. Unfortunately many failed, were lost or abandoned.

Just like the Chalchaj'qmey, Dabh'aelisu, Garidian, Rekarian, Reman and the Watraii they are considered to be a sub-species of the Romulans who are themselves considered to be a sub-species of the Vulcans.

History

When the Romulans' early ancestors departed the Vulcan homeworld, they went on an exodus to find a new planet to call home. This event is known as the Sundering. A number of splinter factions and groups were part of this exodus. One such group was led by Admiral Debrune, a charismatic leader with firm beliefs and ideals regarding the future.

While the fleet searched for a new homeworld, they passed many planets. Admiral Debrune who was in charge of the safety of the rear of the migrating fleet of mismatched vessels used his position and authority to allow small groups of his followers to create colonies on several of the planets the fleet had passed. Unfortunately most of these only lasted for several centuries during the 4th century. Three examples of such colonies are Barradas III, Draken IV and Calder II.

Shortly after this Admiral Debrune split his remaining followers into two groups and falling behind the rest of the fleet ordered them to break off and to continue their search for a new world by themselves.

The second fleet was placed under the command of Vice-Admiral Torek who eventually lead the small splinter fleet to the Rigel system where they went into orbit around Rigel V. Torek and his Vulcan forces later subjugated that planet and made it their homeworld which led to the formation of the Rigelian civilization on that world. They are no longer considered to be members of the Debrune.

Admiral Debrune lead the other half of his followers and eventually settled colonies on both Dessica II and Yadalla Prime. Through force of will he managed to ensure the survival of both colonies, however the one on Dessica II flourished. Even now after a 1,000 years the colony on Yadalla Prime is basically nothing more than a mining and penal colony.

Under the command of Captain Demora Sulu, the crew of the USS Enterprise-B spent two years charting the Debrune ruins in the Barradas system. This mission took place after the Tomed Incident.

Government

A comparison of data has allowed most experts to determine that all of the colonies settled by the Debrune were organized along military lines with a clear set order of command with the most senior officer in charge of the entire colony.

This is especially true of the only colony to flourish, Dessica II which is still commanded by the highest ranking military officer who holds the rank of Admiral. Each one hand picks and trains his replacement who takes over after his death.

Description

They still look like Vulcans after more than 1,000 years and most males seem to dress in odd or altered versions of some kind of militaristic uniform. In most cases this seems to be due to time and cultural influence altering the ancient military uniforms of the Vulcan military prior to the sundering.

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids. There are no known differences between them and the Vulcans when it comes to genetics and medical issues.

Psychology

In this regard they are still very much like their emotional and violent ancestors. However unlike the Vulcans who control and suppress their emotions they have learned to control and harness theirs to their benefit. They suffer from all of the same mental issues that the Vulcans do along with a few that are a result of their way of life.

Religion

While they have no true religion or even much of a need for one they do have great respect and reverence for the heroes and warriors who have served the people well. Many of the older ones such as Admiral Debrune have become such an important part of their history and culture that officers will swear their oaths to these men.

Mythology

While they have retained much of their original Vulcan history and literature they have elevated Admiral Debrune and many of the officers who served under him to a kind of quasi-mythic importance with in their society. As a result they have numerous stories and tales about the lives and accomplishments of these heroes that are meant to inspire the people.

Society

All of their communities are laid out in the same organized and efficient manner. This maximizes the efficiency of all of their infrastructure as well as their ability to defend the city in the case of invasion.

Culture

Due to the militaristic under tones that seem to affect every aspect of their society they have little use for most forms of artistic expression. The few that do find favor with them are inspiring instrumental tunes with a martial vibrancy and the telling of epic poems or tales of past victories and glory.

Customs

All marriages are arranged by the head of each family with the couple meeting for the first time on their wedding day. These matches are arranged partially to ensure the diversity of the gene pool as well as to ensure that the best qualities of the parents will be passed down to their children.

Technology

They have numerous academies, science facilities and ongoing research projects. This has enabled them to stay competitive with the species around them but they have not been able to do more than match the lowest level of technology in common use with in the Federation.

Economy

While most of their trade is between Dessica II and Yadalla Prime they will and do trade with some of the other species within a 20 light year distance. For some reason they prefer to not travel farther than this. Some experts believe it may be due to fact that with in this range it is possible for their fleet to easily provide protection without causing any issues with those species near them.

Military

The Debrune have a fairly large military fleet with more than 300 ships. All of them still have the basic design shape used on Vulcan 1,000 years ago. These ships come in a number of classes and some have been altered for special use.

They have numerous planetary defensive systems in orbit around their home world and hidden within their home system.

The same cannot be said of the few surviving scattered colonies. While most of them do have some kind of defenses, the ships they do have are often old, outdated or of inferior design.

Federation Intelligence Files

The staff (teral'n) wielded by Nero is believed to have been a Debrune artifact.

Under the command of Captain Demora Sulu, the crew of the USS Enterprise-B spent two years charting the Debrune ruins in the Barradas system. This mission took place after the Tomed Incident.

Based on all of the data that has been retrieved most experts believe that Admiral Debrune headed up a faction that was composed of the officers and soldiers that had served under him during the conflicts on Vulcan.

It is also believed that the reason he scattered his followers across so many different worlds was a strategic one. One that seems to have failed as many of these colonies either failed, were abandoned, destroyed or outlived the settlers living there.
