History

Sovak was born to Federation officers on a mostly Vulcan ship named for famed Vulcan composer T'Vel. His early years were spent aboard this vessel, which served the inner Federation worlds on diplomatic and scientific matters. T'Nal and Tukol, Sovak's parents, were both killed in action when he was eight years old.

The boy Sovak was sent to live with his mother's brother Taarikh on Vulcan. Life there was very different from what he was used to aboard the T'Vel. He had a tough time adjusting and fitting in with other Vulcan children, and never caught up to their level of mental training. Taarikh sent him away to an intensive and isolated kolinahr school high on Mount Vishlu, but the kolinahr masters were too hard on him, and he never fit in.

Later, Sovak trained in computer systems technology off-world, then entered Starfleet Academy, still searching for a place where his mixed background would fit in. His roommate was Ren Rennyn, a passionate, outgoing Trill who served as a balance for Sovak's awkward and reserved personality.

Sovak and Ren were posted together to their first assignment, the USS Atlantis. There, they engaged in an on-again, off-again romance that was defined by their mutual inability to manage their own strong emotions.

Sovak is a low-ranking OPS officer who is often assigned thankless tasks and routine maintenance below decks. His one away mission aboard Atlantis ended in a vicious mauling by a large purple jungle cat. His one bridge duty shift on Atlantis ended in the ship crashing into a Prometheus Incident rift he failed to detect. Sovak is pleased to remain below decks performing thankless tasks and routine maintenance.
