As is the Vulcan custom, Spivak was betrothed and joined telepathically to the girl who was to be his wife, T'Rana, when they were both seven years old. Spivak and T'Rana married, and their only child was a son, Solok. T'Rana contracted an alien virus and died on Vulcan when Solok was still a child. Spivak moved shortly thereafter to Earth with his young son. There, Spivak met and married a Terran woman, Sarah Ford.
