Sera is the youngest of three children born on Zhevra province, Andor. When Sera was eleven, during the height of the Dominion war, Sera's family feared that Andor was under imminent threat from invasion and evacuated to Lunar One Colony. Sera's family were among a minority of families to take this offer and her families reputation has been tarnished by many other Andorians who believe those who fled were cowards.
 
Spending her teenage years on Lunar, was a mixed experience for Sera. Even though Andor had always been at the heart of the federation, Andorians have found it difficult to bond with other species. This led Sera to have some very awkward teenage years, she found it very difficult to socialise with her peers and spent much her first year on Lunar as an outcast within her school. This began to change when Sera joined the wrestling team at age thirteen, naturally disciplined Sera found the tough wrestling practises extremely fulfilling. Sera lost her first six match in a row, but eventually become one of the teams better wrestlers and found her team mates wanting to solicalise with her a lot more. Slowly through her time on Lunar Sera has developed a dark sense of humour and is more comfortable socialising with humans and other non-andorians.
 
Sera studied engineering in during her high education and received an apprenticeship upon exiting education at a medium sized freighter ship yard orbiting Europa, Sera found the work acceptable but after eighteen months decided that she wanted to travel before settling down in her career. Sera Spent two years traveling the federation before finding her way back to Andoria, while visiting the Wall of Heroes was a memorial Sera experienced a private epiphany and soon after put in her application for star fleet.
 
While at the academy Sera became the target of bullying from a fellow Andorian who targeted Sera after learning that her family had fled from their homeworld when it seemed that the Dominion would invade. This came to ahead one evening after an academy soccer match when Sera sent her bully to the hospital. Sera was suspended and forced to retake that entire year, however the 'uncertainly' over who had actually initiated the fight and the previous bullying was taken into account and Sera's academy career was salvaged.
