OOC: Takes place after Lael’s “We Have Some News”, Part III

((Rosek’s Quarters, USS Gorkon))

:: Lael sighed as she waited for Jansen and Dassa to arrive. Really, she’d asked him to come so she could talk to him about something she’d been keeping from him since their break-up. She wasn’t quite sure how he was going to react. Her outfit was simple: her dark skinny jeans, a dark green knit sweater and her black Converse. She wore light makeup, including a thin line of eyeliner and clear lipgloss, her brown hair pulled into a messy bun. She was so used to dressing up for Jansen. But they were friends. Just friends. Then the chime to her door sounded. ::

Rosek: Enter!

::The doors parted to reveal Jansen...and to her surprise, Dassa right beside him, the two talking animatedly. ::

Alexander: ::laughs:: I told you you’d enjoy it! Now if you would just be more open minded…

Orrey: ::Laughing some.:: I am open minded.

Alexander: ::snorts:: Aye, that’s you. The king of open-mindedness.

Orrey: If you don't think I'm open minded remind me to tell you about the Bolian and the Vulcan I met Andoria.

Alexander: :: grimaces :: I don’t even want to know.

Orrey: At least I can keep tempo and time right...

Alexander: ::shoves lightly at his shoulder:: Hey!

:: Jansen laughed and turned to Lael with a wave. ::

:: Lael arched an eyebrow in surprise. Dassa had been so vocal about her dislike of Jansen over the last few weeks. The last thing she’d expected was for them to arrive together...much less be exchanging friendly jibes. ::

Orrey: Evening cherié, you needed an ear? ::Pointing at the replicator he made his way over to it.::

:: Shaking off what she’d just witnessed, she returned her thoughts to the reasons she’d asked them both here tonight. ::

:: Jansen returned to the other two with a set of glasses he handed the chamomile with honey to Dassa and the Ligonian tea to Lael before he settled with his own cup of peach tea.::

Rosek: :: sips her tea :: :: to Jansen :: Yes. Well, it’s actually something I need to tell you.

Orrey: Oh?

Rosek: :: pauses :: When we were...over there...before the...incident...well, you were the closest thing I had to family. I wasn’t certain we’d ever get back and...well...I designated you as my power of attorney...if anything should happen that I wasn’t able to make those kinds of decisions for myself.

Orrey: I see :: he sips his drink. :: And you want to change it?

Rosek: :: hesitates :: No.

Orrey: Okay. Is there a reason I am learning about that just now?

Rosek: :: sighs :: With everything that’s happened...over there and since we got back, I guess it just slipped my mind. I should have told you sooner. I’m sorry.

Orrey: No worries, but why bring it up now?

Rosek: Well, I'm going to be undergoing major surgery for my spinal injury. If it works, I’ll regain full mobility.

Orrey: That's great news.

Rosek: :: pauses :: If it doesn't, it could paralyze me. At worst, well…

Orrey: But you won't because you have the best doctors I'm sure.

Alexander: :: nods :: Chythar and I will be performing the surgery.

Orrey: Interesting.

Rosek: :: pauses and turns to Dassa :: And I of course need to make plans for Maddy. I'm going to do more research on how this works since I'm not her biological parent, but...if something happens to me, would you be willing to become Maddy’s guardian?

:: Dassa's eyes widened and she sat, stunned for a moment. ::

Alexander: I…

Rosek: :: smiles wanly :: It's okay. You don't need to say yes right away. Take some time to think about it.

:: Dassa nods dumbly. ::

Orrey: I think she is a fine choice.

Alexander: It's not that I'm not flattered. I am. But a child is a lot of responsibility. I'm not sure if I'm ready yet to be a mother.

Orrey: :: smirking. :: Better do a good job on the surgery then hmm?

Alexander: :: scowls and smacks him :: Not funny! The pressure is already fit to murder me.

Orrey: :: nods :: I can understand that. I have done a few in my time.

Alexander: :: grins wryly :: Mmm. So I’ve heard.

Orrey: Yeah :: smirking with a glance at Lael.:: Some of them were even people other than Lael…

:: Dassa laughed. Lael, on the other hand, scowled and muttered. ::

Rosek: Ha ha.

Alexander: :: grins :: Oh, lighten up. He’s just joshing you.

Rosek: ::arches an eyebrow:: Since when did you two become best friends?

Orrey: Christmas.

Alexander: ::grins and shrugs:: What can I say? He’s entertaining when he’s not being daft.

Orrey: Daft hmm? That's not what you said last night. ::Looking at Lael.:: Besides you should like this hmm?

Rosek: :: pauses :: It’s not about liking it...What are you two up to? ::to Dassa:: Last I heard, you wanted to chop of his male parts with a scalpel knife.

Alexander: :: blushes and protests :: I never said any such thing.

Orrey: Oh I bet you have. :: Smirks and nudges her before taking a drink. :: Besides people can change.

Alexander: :: grumbles :: Yes. Some people can.

Orrey: Besides I'm filling up those music sheets with her.

:: At Lael’s arched eyebrow, Dassa blushed. ::

Alexander: :: stutters :: He...he’s the first person I’ve run across in a long time with an affinity and actual talent for the violin.

Orrey: Aww isn't that cute she said I'm talented.

:: Dassa scowled, again elbowing him in the side, though this time a bit harder. ::

:: Jansen starts to cough in a wheezing sort of way. ::

Alexander: Don’t go getting big-headed now, you git. I said you were decent. Didn’t say you were the next Paganini.

:: The coughing continues and he placed his cup down rising and excusing himself into the bathroom. This wasn't the first of these episodes he had around either of them. ::

:: Dassa frowned, rising to her feet, Lael behind her as they both stood outside the bathroom. Lael knocked. ::

Rosek: Are you alright, Jansen?

Orrey: :choked:: Fine, yeah...

Alexander: I’m sorry if I hurt you. I was just joshing.

:: The door opens again and he steps out straightening his vest. Looking better, if a little flushed...Which in contrast showed how pale he had been lately. ::

Orrey: I'm fine. You didn't hurt me, just a drink going down the wrong way.

Alexander: :: frowns :: Come to think, this is the second bout this week.

Rosek: :: turns to Dassa, arching an eyebrow :: Third, then. He had a spell with me yesterday. :: to Jansen :: All right, Orrey. Spill. What’s going on?

Orrey: :: stepping past them. :: When is this surgery supposed to happen?

Rosek: :: folds her arms. :: Nice try. But I’m not saying another word on the subject until you tell me what’s going on with you.

:: Dassa nodded sagely in agreement. ::

Alexander: You’re hiding something.

Orrey: I'm a diplomat, it's my job to control information.

Rosek: :: scowls :: Not funny.

Orrey: Besides I was going to say we should go to the holodeck soon.

:: Lael’s gaze locked with his, the fire in her eyes so intense it could have melted steel. ::

Rosek: :: snaps :: I’m not going anywhere until you tell me the truth. Stop evading. Out with it.

Orrey: :: laughing at her. :: That's cute.

Rosek: :: grinds her teeth and clenches her fists :: It’s not ‘cute’.

Orrey: You want to use all that energy for a little case of bronchitis.

:: Lael felt like taking another swing at him. She was dangerously close. The wrong word...the wrong anything...and he’d be flat on his back in seconds, cough or no cough. ::

Rosek: I don’t believe you.

Orrey: What?

Rosek: What what? You heard me, Lieutenant. I don’t believe you.

:: Dassa watched the proceedings, her mouth open in a surprise, hardly able to believe what she was seeing. She’d seen a couple of their fights from Lael’s perspective before due to the memories...but it was quite another thing to be on the outside looking in. ::
