((Arboretum, DS26))

TERESHKOVA: It’ll be fine. Trust me. I’ll talk you through it. ::She smiled cordially.::

FENELLI: Yes sir. When do we start?

TERESHKOVA: Right now, Ensign!

FENELLI: ::Mary's eyes opened wide and her pupils shrunk:: Okay, sir.

TERESHKOVA: See that control panel up there? ::She pointed to a grey rectangle on one side of the wall of the second level of the Arboretum.:: It’s a maintenance panel for the Arboretum. Here, take this. ::She handed the ensign a phaser.::

FENELLI: ::Mary took the phaser, confused.:: What do I do with this?

TERESHKOVA: You will need to use your hover-chair to reach that panel and fire on it with this phaser. That will fry the circuits, and, according to the schematics I have, hopefully will open all exits in the Arboretum. Basically, the subroutines are wired in such a way that any overload to the circuits denotes an environmental crisis in the Arboretum that allows access in and out of here.

FENELLI: So If I fire my phaser on that panel, all the doors will open? Sounds easy enough. ::Mary's face went blank, completely void of emotions.::

TERESHKOVA: You can do this, Ensign Fenelli. You have to do this! The entire crew is counting on you!

FENELLI: I will do my best, but... ::Mary didn't like the fact that the whole crew was counting on her. She was scared, she felt like she was having a panic attack.::

TERESHKOVA: Don’t worry. I’ll monitor your vitals while lieutenant Conti will keep an eye on the hover-chair to make sure it doesn’t well, malfunction.

FENELLI: Yes sir. ::Mary took a deep gulp as she readjusted the elevation settings on her hover-chair.:: Here I go...

TERESHKOVA/CONTI: Reply

Mary's Chair began to raise, and he held the phaser firmly in her hand.::

oO Don't look down...Don't look down..Oo

Mary realized she wasn't that far from the ground. She punched in a few commands on the side panel of the hover-chair, and soon she had a rapid accent to the ceiling.::

oO Almost there.Oo

Mary was close enough to the panel to fire the phaser with it.::

oOAim...Fire!Oo

Mary fired the phaser at the panel...well, close to the panel.::

oO What the...how did I miss??Oo

Mary was embarrassed. There were all these officers down there, waiting for her to save them, and what does she do? Miss.::

oO Glad this isn't a gun with only one bullet. Oo

Mary moved her chair closer to the panel and aimed again, making sure to hit the panel. A flash of red came from the phaser and hit the panel. Sparks flew off the panel as the circuits were singed and the panel overloaded.::

oO Got it! Oo

Mary turned to her own panel, on her chair and went to bring herself down. Mary pushed the button, but her chair kept rising. Confused, Mary turned to the panel once again, and starred at it. Mary's chair flew right into the ceiling smashing her into it. The chair then plummeted down to the ground, faster than ever before. Mary couldn't stop it. The chair began to spin in circles like a whirling derby as it hurled to the floor.::

FENELLI: Help!

Mary saw the ground, just feet below her. She closed her eyes, and braced for impact.::

oO I can't be in the chair when it impacts!! Oo

Without thinking, Mary uses all her arm strength to try to leap from the chair. Due to the spinning though, Mary was stuck, pinned against the chair. She tried again, and she pushed herself from the chair, hurling herself into mid air as the chair smashed down on the ground. Mary watched as the chair stilled hovered, not touching the ground. it looked like nothing had ever happened to it. Mary, still in mid air, fell to the ground, landing on her feet. Mary turned to see the doors, all opened, except one which kept opening and closing. Mary smiled.::

oO I did it! Oo

Mary walked over to the chair, amazingly in perfect condition.::

oO Ah, good old Chai-Oo

Mary collapsed onto the ground.::

oO How were my legs working? I was walking! How??Oo

Mary tried to get up again, but to no avail. Tears ran down Mary's cheeks at the thought of her being able to walk again. Today may not be the day she is able to walk again, but the day would come, Mary was sure of it now. Mary wiped her tears off her face, and looked over at the other officers.::

FENELLI: Can I have some help? ::Mary motioned to her chair.::
