Relationship with Tobias
Throughout Tobias' childhood, Esme was a source of unconditional love and affection. Whilst Tobias never wished to emulate her choice of career as a child, he nevertheless enjoyed spending time with his mother and tried to emulate her warm, positive attitude towards others. He also appreciated the bedtime stories that she would tell to him and Darin, about adventure and exploration. Both boys cite these stories as being responsible for them seeking out adventure in their professional lives as adults, Tobias enlisting in Starfleet and Darin working as an archaeologist.
Esme's relationship with her son has experienced many troubles in recent years although she has little idea what occurred to make Tobias wish to leave so suddenly. Unlike her husband however, she continues to maintain contact with her son. Her inquiries with Tobias have affirmed to her that whatever occurred it was not her fault, which has put a strain on her relationship with her husband Corbin.
