Praria Markey had what other would classify as a lonely childhood. Her father, as a journalist, travelled a lot and for long periods of time, and her mother, working as a clerk in a hotel in Galway, spent most of the day at said place. And Praria didn't really see her parents a lot, and she remained at home with a family friend, Toz Virsel ([[Bajoran]]), to basically raise her. Early in her childhood this was more than fine; in fact she loved her parents' friend who played "Fix it, Gurgh" with her. But as she grew old enough to resent her parents' lack of time at home, she grew more separated from them, though she still loved them very dearly.

As a teenager she spent most of her time on computers, locked in her room and submerged in the cybernetic world. She excelled at school, though mostly because she didn't have many things to do to entertain her other than homework.
