History

Descended from birds this avian species has never lost their connection to nature.

Government

They seem to have no formal unified system of government, simply a number of committees, each with its own concerns and objectives such as the 'Committee for the Preservation of Nature." These groups debate, investigate, examine and decide on how best to achieve the goals of their select committee.

Description

This avian species has an extremely colorful look with a virtual rainbow of iridescent and vibrant colored feathers covering almost every inch of their bodies except the bottom of their feet and the palms of their hands. The exposed skin on the palms of their hands and the bottoms of their feet is light gray in color and thick with a tough, even rough texture. They have a beak for a mouth which can vary in size and shape but tends to also be colorful.

In size they stand on average between 4'6" and 5'.

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.

However due to their avian ancestry they have hollow bones which makes them lighter than they look.

Psychology

As a species they tend to be animated during conversations, excitable and easily distracted in crisis's or stressful situations. Most of them prefer to avoid confrontations and may even flee from them in a panic.

Religion

They believe in the Delirious Rapture of Divine Light, a semi-regular light show of incredible beauty and wonder that occurs naturally in their upper atmosphere at night. Their priests believe that this is their god communicating with them, especially as this light show seems to have some kind of strange hallucinogenic affect on a large proportion of their population.

Mythology

They have many tales that seem to confirm that the mysterious light shows that occur semi-regularly at night are messages from their god. These have been warnings of possible danger, glimpses into the future, personal advice and even suggestions as to how to deal with or proceed with some project, plan or idea.

Society

All of their homes and buildings are built right into the environment in such a way as to eliminate any negative impact. They take advantage of the natural elements to provide as much as possible in the way of building supplies, adding only the minimal needed to make their living space functional. This results in a lot of open space concept homes with roofs and floors but absolutely no walls. These are usually built in the upper levels of the trees and can be a warren of structures allowing large numbers of them to live in small spaces with numerous families in each massive tree.

Culture

They love bright colors and will have numerous fabulous colored flowers of every kind imaginable planted any and everywhere it is possible, especially within their living spaces. Many configured in some kind of pattern or style to maximize their visual and olfactory ability to please the senses.

Customs

They have complex and confusing mating rituals, especially as males and females seem to move from mate to mate with consistent regularity.

Technology

While they do have the knowledge and understanding of many advanced technological and scientific concepts it is extremely rare to find any of these in any of their homes. They can be found in places of work, hospitals, schools and other centers of activity.

Economy

While their own species do trade a lot among themselves their quality of life is far below that normally expected of a species this advanced. This seems to be primarily a result of their lack of interest in many advancements and their desire to remain more at home in nature.

Their only real off world trade is in exotic foods which they trade for medical equipment or medical supplies. The beauty and wonder of their pristine jungle world attracts a small yet enthusiastic collection of visitors who enjoy the primitive wonder of camping or vacationing in facilities that promote a more basic form of getting back to nature.

Military

They have no military of any kind and never have. This includes never having developed defensive or offensive weapons. Fortunately they have no natural resources that would tempt an invasion and what resources they do have while plentiful are of low quality or require to much work to make them practical for export. Their world is in a location that is off the beaten track and of absolutely no interest strategically or militarily.
