Ossa V'Airu was born in 2334 to a [[Vulcan]] mother and a [[Betazoid]] father. She was raised on [[Betazed]] as ''[https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/V%27tosh_ka%27tur V'tosh ka'tur]'', as was her mother. Her father's family moved around through his childhood, and her father lived on many Federation worlds, including Bolarus IX, homeworld of the Bolians.
 
Ossa is distantly related to the [[Twelfth House of Betazed]].

Early in her career, Ossa served aboard the starships ''Tar'Hana'', ''Equity'', and ''Crow Dog''.
Ossa was assigned as a tactical cadet to the [[Nebula class]] ''Tar'Hana'' in 2360 and was later promoted to ensign aboard the same ship, after completing her shipboard rotation. She requested and was granted further service as an officer on ''Tar'Hana''. She served as an ensign in the tactical department there for three years before being promoted to lieutenant, junior grade. Along with her promotion and thanks to positive reviews by her superiors, she was chosen to serve as a relief operations officer on the bridge during Beta Shift. She continued to serve as a tactical officer and relief ops officer aboard ''Tar'Hana'' for the next two years.
Ossa served through the Dominion War aboard the USS ''Crow Dog'', first as chief tactical officer and, later, as commanding officer. The ''Crow Dog'' was assigned to the Fifth Fleet, which saw action primarily in the Beta Quadrant until the last few months of the war, at which point the ''Crow Dog'' and several Fifth Fleet taskforces observed extended service in the Gamma Quadrant.
Following the end of the war in 2375, then-Captain V'Airu requested and was granted a respite from shipboard service.

Ossa maintains strong ties to [[Betazed]] and her [[Betazoid]] heritage, and enjoys many forms of art. She is acquainted with the designer Aanlis Mou of the [[Cult of Karawati]], who has on more than one occasion created couture gowns for Ossa in exchange for Ossa wearing those gowns at exclusive Federation functions.
