Nigel Barrett spent most of his years on Earth, living in a small suburb outside of San Diego, California. A son to immigrant parents from London, England, his father, Phillip, was a computer programmer, and his mother, Elizabeth, was a stay at home mom/teacher. She had home schooled Nigel and his sister up until they entered high school. Nigel had quite an ordinary home life, and seldom experienced any type of hardships or pain. The only thing that really affected him was the death of his grandmother (Father's side) Emily. Being a integral part of his life, she was often at their home, babysitting, reading him stories, playing baseball, and teaching him chess. Her death brought on  much grief, and it wasn't until he was older that he finally understood that everyone has their time to go, and there was no way of stopping it, his grandmother always told him that she would be leaving him one day, but being so young and full of innocence, he didn't pay mind to it, he always thought she would around forever. After her death, Nigel was only seven, and had much time on his hands to figure out what his calling was, he shifted interests, one day he wanted to be a doctor, a computer engineer, a scientiest, a baseball player, a pilot, he just didn't know for sure.

He remembered going out on his parents balcony at night, which was right outside his bedroom window, a small terrace, just big enough for him, and a telescope. During his high school years, Nigel pretty much remained under the radar, which was fine with him. He had a few close friends, and was considered by most of his peers as a "shy, but nice guy". His college and academy years were much the same spending a lot of time in his studies, reading, drawing and playing guitar.
During his high school years, Nigel still remained under the radar. He wasn't top in his class, but he wasn't at the bottom either, which was fine with him, he was content with his mediocrity, but he knew he must push himself if he entered the Academy.
