Background
Born into a pre-warp species, Nagazi was abducted as a young adult by Klingon pirates and forced to fight in illegal death matches against other unfortunate abductees for entertainment and gambling purposes.
As part of his abduction, Nagazi's memory was wiped, meaning his past is a mystery to both others and himself. All he knows for sure is that he is Grizzela.
During his captivity, it was unknown whether he would survive being unable to hibernate, as his people normally do for six months of their planet's rotation, but it was discovered that with ample food and heating, he was able to break his hibernation cycle.
After the syndicate that abducted him was raided and shut down by a Starfleet crew, Nagazi decided he could not go back to his home world and instead opted to follow in the footsteps of his liberators and join Starfleet Academy.
Chronological History
Unknown - Born on Garasa III
2393 - Wakes up in unknown location, with memory wiped, having been abducted by Klingon pirates and sold to an illegal gambling/entertainment syndicate. Over the next two years, Nagazi would be forced to break his hibernation cycle and fight in death matches against similarly unfortunate abductees.
2395 - Liberated from illegal gambling syndicate by Starfleet crew.
2396 - Enters Starfleet Academy
2400 - Graduates Starfleet Academy and is assigned to Starbase 118 Ops as a Security Officer.
