Personal History

After graduating from law school, Levin worked at a small firm in San Francisco. After several months and having had time to gain his footing, Levin was first assigned to the case of a court-martialed Starfleet officer. After several years, he enrolled in graduate science courses, where he literally ran into Rachell Maiam, then working on her medical degree. Over time, defending court-martialed officers became his focus, and, amid the paranoia that swept much of the Federation, especially the Sol system, in the months and years leading up to the Dominion War, he began to feel that a number of his clients were being found guilty before their trials, leading to a growing paranoia only added to by the cryptic mutterings his father about "needing someone to guard the guards." Despite his misgivings about certain things he'd encountered while in law, Levin and Maiam both submitted applications to Starfleet Academy following the outbreak of the Dominion War, and were accepted.

Levin has a number of quirks, some which have been noted by others, some of which have not. For example, he suffers from the usual human eye deterioration, but refuses to undergo treatment for the condition, not out of allergy or fear, but out of simple difficulty and preference for reading glasses. Still on the lighter side and unknown to most, he drinks hot chocolate from his coffee mug as opposed to actual coffee. A self-inflicted combination of overwork and stress are believed to have led to his heart attack, and he was known as a chronic workaholic aboard the Isannah, often times staying in his office hours after his shifts ended -- this led to a number of loud, short-tempered (on both ends) fights with his wife. Ever since a near-death experience on an away mission, he has been ill-at-ease while aboard starships, and after that experience, he shifted a painting of earth from a side wall of his office to across from his desk, almost as if in order to remind himself that he was alive.
