While Intrepid class vessels left spacedock with some of the most advanced sensors and scanning technology, it was not until the return of USS Voyager from the Delta Quadrant that these ships were outfitted with a stellar cartography lab – an innovation created by the Voyager crew.

The stellar cartography lab is a sophisticated navigational and awareness tool, which allows the coordination of deep space scanning and communications to create real-time displays of complex spacial phenomenon and optimized routing. It features a raised stage, on which lab personnel can approach the high resolution screen for closer viewing and analysis. Two stations at the front of the stage provide coordination of data on the screen, while stations on either side of the room are utilized for managing the influx of data from various sensor pods around the ship.
