Word of mouth advertising is the absolute best way to get people to sign up as a member of our community -- hands down, no question. That's why you're our best possible spokesperson, even if you're not on the Publicity Team. Taking a few minutes to recruit your friends can have a huge impact on our application rate.

Face-to-face

We're not going to lie -- actually sitting down and talking with a friend about our community is the gold standard here. That doesn't necessitate scheduling a whole night or spending money on a fancy dinner to make the pitch, but any opportunity you have to actually talk to a fellow Trekkie and/or writer about us will be more effective than anything else you can do.

Via Email

Next to face-to-face contact, an email is the next-best way to ask someone to join. Here are two templates you can use to get you started -- you're encouraged to put this in your voice, but the words we've bolded are "magic words" that are proven to increase interest, and should definitely stay in:

If you're a new member

Hey [Friend First Name],

I just joined this great Trek community online, and I think you should join me! It's a Star Trek role-playing game. Everyone creates a character, and is assigned to a ship where they play out missions -- sorta like writing a novel together.

There's more than 100 members, with an active forum and a wiki with over 7,500 pages! Of all the online role-playing games, this is definitely the best and most professional I've seen, and I'm loving it. There's even a good chance they can put you on the same ship as me, if you want.

Check out the website at http://www.starbase118.net and let me know if you apply!
