Hallbjorn was the firstborn child of a fisherman and his wife from rural Iceland, growing up he didn't spend much time in schools. opting instead for spending time working the family trade. His favorite thing as a boy was hunting whales, where he quickly learned how to use harpoons, and how deadly wounded animals can get. Starting at age fourteen, he was allowed to spend part of the year in Greenland with his grandparents, the winters were dark and cold, but some of his favorite.

As he grew older, he got more and more curious as to what was outside the frigid North Atlantic, he often saw shuttles ferrying tourists and supplies from Keflavik, and on his seventeenth birthday he talked his way into a ride. From that moment on he set his sights on leaving Earth, and more specifically, serving in Starfleet. The strict discipline, hard work, and chance to see things he'd previously never dreamed of led him to apply to the academy.

His social life was practically non-existent at the academy, except for a friendly mechanic, Baldursson didnt make many friendships, and that was fine by him. In his eyes it was a waste of time, going drinking with the guys wasnt going to get him out into space.
