Half The Picture

(( Diplomatic Corps Building - Main Offices Deck ))

::Brek was feeling rather embarrassed. It was not everyday that a person in his position got to hear an Ambassador speaking of instigating a war, and this during the simple course of a breakfast. It was true that he had been blunt, in effect telling the good Ambassador to assist Nicholotti in any way he could, or pack up. But then, what else was he supposed to do while tactical, engineering and science were working round the clock to save the Starbase? Stuff himself with food, from meeting to meeting, and keep a low profile, hoping that other officers would sort the situation?::

oO That's not a bad scheme, and it usually works pretty well. Maybe that I should try playing golf? How much does it cost to buy all the gear? oO

::He took the corridor leading to his office and was distracted by the presence of a group of people who were chatting away. They looked up in his direction and promptly dispersed, leaving just Ensign Dakarai.::

Brek: What's all this about?

Dakarai: Oh nothing, just some casual banter to alleviate the stress.

Brek: Follow me, I need to talk to you. There is no such things as `nothing' Dakarai, specially when so many people are involved. What were you talking about?

::they entered Brek's office, and he was pleased to notice that his painting was there, on the wall, along with several other decorative items. To his eyes, the room looked pleasantly `ethnic`, with only a few artefacts that originated from Earth or Ferenginar.::

Dakarai: Your grand mother keeps calling Lt, you should contact her. The poor woman must be wondering what the hell is happening on the Starbase.

Brek: Don't insult my relatives by calling them poor, Dakarai, and don't change the subject either. If my grand mother wants to be updated, she should do what every other civilian on this Starbase does: watch the news bulletins.

Dakarai: ::Sighing.:: I don't know why you are so insistent. We were just gossiping… It seems that… well… Cmdr Nicholotti and Lt Daniels spent the night together. I got it from a guy in Ops, who got it from someone in Engineering. It may sound far remote, yet as far as words of mouth go, it's pretty consistent.

Brek: ::Feeling rather drained.:: That's great news. You wouldn't happen to have anything more substantial? Maybe about the Romulan staff present on the Starbase? I am in a rather er… awkward position, and I could do with a bit of dirt on them.

Dakarai: I can't say that I have such information, no. They are very discreet you know, these Romulans. They are even times where at first glance it's difficult to make them apart from their Vulcan counterparts. I wish our C.O was that restrained.

Brek: ::Dropping in his chair and consulting his messages.:: Why would she want to look like a Vulcan?

Dakarai: ::Looking like his interlocutor was slow-witted.:: I had forgotten that Ferengi people aren't too good with hints. What I meant to say is that people are beginning to talk, saying that Lt Daniels got his position thanks to her. This is the type of rumour which, ultimately, might damage SB118.

Brek: ::Looking nonplussed.:: And you seriously think that this is going to hurt the Starbase more than the army of projectiles aimed at us!? What is the name of that westerly deity of yours that's always quoted everywhere? Not Zeus, the other one.

Dakarai: Jesus?

Brek: Yes that one. Jeeze Dakarai! This is because of people like you that this galaxy is always in such a mess. You make assumptions and all you've got is half the picture of something quite vague! Here are the genuine facts: Captain Jaxx tested Daniels for the tactical department and promoted him, after the completion of his trial. It was all done because of the imminent crew split, but I doubt that many of us foresaw this development. You are slandering the wrong people. Give me something I can work with!

Dakarai: ::Looking rather unhappy.:: I am afraid that I have nothing that you wouldn't want to shred to pieces, Lt.

Brek: ::Heavy sigh.:: You are about as useful as… never mind. Leave me alone, I need to think. And make sure to put a stop to any false rumours, otherwise I'll give your personal contact details to my grand mother. I have heard that she has quite an appetite, for everything!
