Background
Garret was born, and spent most of his life, on earth. His father was a trader, usually going to other planets on his own starship to trade various goods, and his mother was a teacher. Garrets life isn't anything special. His parents loved him and spent a lot of time with him, even thought his father was away a lot of the times. During his school years he didn't excel in any area. He did average at most of them and never received any honors or anything like that.
Garret didn't even think he would be joining Starfleet until his 17th birthday. On that day his father's vessel was captured by pirates. The pirates took his vessel and cargo but left him alive. Starfleet soon rescued him but that experience changed Garret's father. He didn't become cruel or anything like that, but he became more aloof. Even thought his father could have bought another vessel and start again, he refused to so, choosing to retire from his business. On that day Garret decided to join Stafleet, to help protect the civilians of the federation.
