  • Time Between Resupply: 3 weeks
  • Time Between Refit: 5 years
  • Accommodation: Crew: One (Can accommodate 1 passenger in rear jumpseat)
  • Dimensions:
    • Length: 9.2 meters
    • Beam: 5.4 meters
    • Height: 3.3 meters
  • Mass: 13.1 metric tons
  • Performance:
    • Normal Cruising Speed: 0.25c (impulse only)
    • Maximum Cruising Speed: 0.4c (impulse only)
  • Armament:
    • 2 (forward) Type X pulse phaser cannons (fire linked)
    • Optional hardpoints (2 on each wing) for micro-torpedo launcher systems
  • Defensive Systems:

The FI-25 CROSSBOW Interceptor is very maneuverable and heavily armed. The fighter can launch and land under its own power but often uses electromagnetic launch systems to reach a greater initial velocity than would otherwise be possible.

The fighter is built around two horizontal, cylindrical structures. Both structures have a conical projection located at the front, which project out past the forward plane of the fighter itself. These conical projections house the emitters for the pulse phaser cannons, which fire in tandem. The vectored exhaust directors for the fighter’s fusion-reactor are mounted aft, with one on the rear of each of the cylindrical structures, creating thrust along the centerline of the spacecraft. Located between the two structures are the fighter's cockpit, fusion-reactor, control computer, and cargo storage. The cockpit is located forward, including a forward sliding canopy, a fully upholstered acceleration seat complete with four point restraining harness, manual steering column, and systems displays and interfaces. A second compartment for a passenger, BN or RIO is located directly aft of the pilot’s seat also facing forward and slightly elevated, with its own aft sliding canopy access and redundant computer interfaces and displays, but lacking the steering column. Aft of the passenger compartment is the fusion-reactor. It also has 2.04 cu.m of cargo space accessible from the ventral hull, and a single aft mounted tractor beam emitter.

The fighter has short delta style wings, and two control surfaces angled ventrally at 45 degree-angles outward, near the rear of the fighter. The ends of these control surfaces act as the rear portion of the "landing gear", though they are not adjustable. The forward landing leg is extendable, and located under the pilot’s cockpit. When in landing mode the leg projects forward, not straight down, with a short "ski"-type ending instead of a wheel. Under the secondary compartment is the small cargo area, with ventral access only.

Because of its small size (relative to most Federation starships), the CROSSBOW does have a limited Inertial Damping System. Pilots, however, are still required to strap themselves into their acceleration seats. Cockpits are also pressurized, but standard protocol requires the pilots to wear proper flight gear, which includes an enclosed suit and helmet connected to the environmental systems of the ejection seat, in case of loss of cockpit atmosphere. In an emergency, "beam-jecting" is possible, but the canopy can be blown and automatic or manual ejection of the seat is a viable alternative.

The Trainer variant contains all of the same systems, weapons, propulsion, etc, as the basic fighter. The fuselage, however, is slightly wider to accommodate the larger cockpit. Instead of a single pilot, the cockpit has two acceleration seats positioned side by side, with redundant displays and interfaces, including the manual steering column. The sliding canopy is replaced by gull-wing style canopy hatches, one on each side. The secondary compartment is also side by side seating, with gull-wing canopy hatches, allowing the Trainer to seat up to four people.

Profile

Starfleet FI-25 Short Range Space Superiority Interceptor (CROSSBOW)

  • PRODUCTION BASE: Utopia Planitia, Mars, Sector 001.
  • RATINGS: 88. See below for DITL summary.
  • TYPE: Short range non-warp heavy fighter.
  • INSERVICE DATE: 2383. Successor to FS-90 series.
  • POWER PLANT: thirty DeFl 9200 micro-Fusion RCS thrusters and one 8k impulse engine.
  • PERFORMANCE: Full impulse for 64 hours.
  • ARMAMENT:
    • Two forward facing, tandem-firing Type X pulse phaser cannons, for a total phaser output 3,500 TeraWatts.
  • SHIELDS: Type 7 generators capable of deflecting 1.6 x 10 to the 5th Kw.
  • SENSORS: Minimal, short range, tactical only.
  • SPACE FRAME: Capable of high velocity turns up to and exceeding 45g without compromising the enhanced Structural Integrity Field. A Duraniam/Tritanium single hull with a standard SIF and 3cm high-density armor.
  • HISTORY/NOTES: The Crossbow was designed specifically for the new Cutlass-class Carrier, though it can easily be used by any base or station as well. Developed principally for rapid response and deployment from a Cutlass, the Crossbow's size and maneuverability belie the offensive punch it packs.
  • DITL STRENGTH INDICES
    • Beam Weapons: 70
    • Torpedoes: 0
    • Range/Accuracy: 60
    • Shields: 60
    • Hull/Armor: 350
    • Speed: 0.52
    • Combat Agility: 19,000
    • Total Strength: 88

FI-25T Trainer Variant

The following are the only differences between the basic CROSSBOW, and the Trainer (also a fully functional fighter):

  • ACCOMODATION: (forward)1 pilot and 1 trainer; can carry two others in rear jump seats.
  • DIMENSIONS: beam 5.9m
  • MASS: 13.2 Metric tonnes

Additional Notes

  • Atmospheric Propulsion: The fighter can achieve escape velocity (Mach 32.6/25053 mph/40320 kph) but normally operates at Mach 8 (6160.7 mph/9907.2 kph) or less.
  • Maximum Range: the fighter has enough fuel for 15 days of standard performance. If fighter is operating at maximum performance, reduce range by half. Fighter uses dueterium for fuel in a fusion reactor. The fighter can operate with engines on standby to increase fighter's range. The fighter has supplies for pilot for 3 weeks.
  • Power System: Fusion power supply with a 15-day duration at normal output. Fusion power supply can run life support without any thrust for 2 years, although rations and water will have long run out.
  • Cargo: Small Storage Space, 1.22m w x 1.37m l x 1.22m h. Used for emergency equipment and weapons.

Design Notes

The CROSSBOW Interceptor was a collaborative project initiated by Admiral Krieger and Commander Varaan, but quickly aided by Starfleet's Advanced Starship Design Bureau (ASDB).
