Parsons is part of a cadre of cadets sent to Earth as the Xindi's first foray into direct Starfleet participation. Unlike the other cadets, who were selected for their unique aptitudes and personal passion for the Federation's creed, Parsons and their Insectoid siblings were produced specifically for the occasion, exposed to Federation training materials while still in their shells and informed of their mission upon hatching. 

 Parsons sped through the Academy with unshakable focus, either failing or purposely refusing to form social bonds with other students. They exhibited above-average patience by Insectoid standards, demonstrating the unusual ability to sit still for nearly a full hour without beginning to spasm from stress. It was this tolerance for inaction, coupled with their natural passion for biological systems and knack for rapid concept iteration, that kept them in the Academy when the majority of their siblings dropped out and became Enlisted instead.

 Parsons' exposure to a wide spectrum of genetic diversity-- both in terms of the different species of Xindi on their ship and the tremendous variety of alien races represented among Starfleet's ranks-- planted what would become a deep fascination with galactic biology and anatomy. In their early Academy years, they hoped to channel this interest into discovering a way to extend the lives of their people, but these hopes were quickly dashed when Parsons realized they would have to choose between honoring their species as a valued worker and wasting their remaining years chasing a medical degree they wouldn't live long enough to make use of.
 Parsons has since decided to quietly suppress that passion for the sake of the Xindi-Insectoids as a whole, indulging only rarely and shallowly in the medical world by skimming journals and half-listening to educational media while they work.
