Leo Beaufytor is the product of a brief extra-marital encounter between a [[Pythron]] woman, Thera Datchet-Beaufytor (wife of a member of the Pythron military elite), and a gifted [[Byzatium|Byzallian]] technocrat, Mons Vor, that took place during a peace conference that was intended to unite the two planets after generations of hostility.  For the first five years of his life, Leo was raised in happiness and comfort, as his mother's husband never questioned his legitimacy. 
 
But when his biological father found out about his existence, Leo was kidnapped from Pythro and taken to his father's compound on Byzatium where he was renamed Graven.  His father truly believed that the boy would forget his mother, but Graven never did.  Once he was old enough, he began his training in everything from intergalactic politics to sword-fighting.  It was his father's hope that one day Graven would take over his empire, and then the Byzallian government, which would have given him the power to conquer Pythro. 
 
When Beaufytor was eighteen, his Father demanded that he join him in an assassination attempt against the Premier of Byzatium.  Shocked by the treachery planned, Beaufytor not only disobeyed his Father, but informed the authorities of his plot. The coup was foiled and Mons Vor was forced to flee the planet, vowing revenge, something that continues to weigh on his son's mind almost ten years later.
 
After returning to Pythro, it became clear that although his mother wanted him, her husband did not, as Graven was a constant reminder of his wife's infidelity.  Unable to make a real life on either of his home planets, Graven had to forge his own path.  Since he had a good mind and a strong sense of adventure, he applied to Starfleet Academy in 2383 with the help of the Federation Ambassador to Byzallium, who believed that breaking away from his father demonstrated the strength of character necessary for a prospective cadet.

At the Academy, Beaufytor excelled in his tactical and security classes, and upon graduation, was assigned as a security officer to the [[USS Independence-A]] and then to the [[USS Tiger-A]].
 
He joined Starfleet under Graven Monsvor, the name his father chose for him, but recently decided to change it back to Leo Beaufytor.

Having been raised almost entirely under his father's influence, away from his mother's warmth and kindness, Leo quickly learned to box up any feelings or emotions that would have been seen as weakness and would have earned him a severe punishment.  The smiling child he had been for the first five years of his life became serious and withdrawn, rarely partaking in any form of frivolity. 
 
Even after he was out from under his father's thumb, he continued to keep himself in check, lest he ever be underestimated.  Some of his classmates at the Academy called him cold and heartless, although those who took the time to get to know him spotted a wry sense of humor beneath his cool composure.  And while he might not have been popular, thanks to his authoritativeness which earned him followers and good looks which earned him admirers, he never lacked for companionship, male or female.
 
==Relationships==
 
Although he has not made many actual friends since the Academy, he has become interested in Lieutenant JG [[Velana]], who seems to be equally interested in him.  Still, he is concerned that she may be too innocent for a man with his background.  Any woman who would share his bed would automatically become a target for his father. 
 
He has also made a connection with [[Townson, Tracey|Lieutenant Commander Tracey Townson]], and while he has yet to discover if there is as much physical passion between them as he's experienced with Velana, he wonders if she might be a better match to the darker parts of his soul.
