Personality

Anja has a strong set of values and strives to consistently meet them. She needs to feel as if she is living her life in accordance with what she feels is right, and will rebel against anything which conflicts with that goal. She is kind, gentle and sensitive in her dealings with others. Interested in contributing to people's sense of well-being and happiness, Anja will put a great deal of effort and energy into tasks which she believes in. Though she can appear light-hearted and frivolous, she is actually very serious at heart and her emotions, though slow to ignite, are often intense.

Personal History

Even as a child, Anja Kirsi never expressed any interest in becoming a host to a symbiont; choosing instead to pursue her passions; music and dance - a decision that was supported and nurtured by her family. It was a lifestyle that took her all over the Federation from a young age, as part of dance troupes and to study at various dance academies. As a result, the young Trill became somewhat worldly, adapting easily to the various cultures she encountered.

Anja was twenty when her life suddenly changed. She was travelling home to Trill after spending some time on Earth, aboard a small ship and made friends with the only other Trill passenger - one Davin Hahn. He was old, with failing health and was returning home to pass his symbiont on to a new host. Just over a week away from from Trill, his body finally gave out and his condition became critical. Davin begged Anja to take his symbiont and sensing her reluctance, he resorted to a lie, fearful that the Hahn symbiont would be lost. He assured her that the Joining would only be temporary and once they arrived on Trill, Hahn could be removed and she would be free to continue with her life.

Having never had any interest in becoming a host, the lie was believable enough to Anja and the the truth came out too late for her to change her mind. Far more than the joining period of 93 hours had passed by the time the ship arrived on Trill and the young woman was suddenly faced with the realisation that Hahn was now a permanent part of her life. After a year of adjustment and counselling from the Symbiosis Commission, Anja Hahn decided to apply to Starfleet; combining both the host's skill and familiarity with different cultures and the symbiont's affinity for medicine.

Professional History

Upon graduating from the Academy, complete with her medical license, Anja was assigned to the science department of the USS Independence. To her surprise, this didn't come as much of a disappointment as she was expecting; as a trained doctor, she was expected to primarily assist in science matters pertaining to biology and would spend two duty days a week in sickbay to keep her clinical skills fresh (subject to mission requirements).

With the transfer of several medical staff to the USS Tiger, Anja was reassigned to work full-time as a medical office aboard the Independence.
