FROM STARBASE 118

The Admiral is pleased to announce that two new ships have joined our fleet here at Star Base 118. The StarWind, commanded by Captain Sierra Randor, is now assigned to us. And the USS Isannah, long assigned to the base generally, has now been commissioned to Captain Maela Jolon. Welcome aboard!

Lieutenant Prexis Sall has, in his capacity of Mission Specialist for the Freedom, come up with some interesting theories that we should all consider.

"I was just thinking about something and I thought I would pass it along to you regardless of the outcome of the XO's position. If in the future you encounter the Borg, there is a weapon that can be used against them. As we saw with Captain Picard and the Enterprise-E, the Borg were rendered ineffective when sprayed with bullets from an ancient weapon called a Tommy-Gun. The Borg have a shield that protects them from a phaser blast, such as a laser beam. But they cannot shield themselves against projectile weapons. Lt.Cmdr. Worf used his Batlet and cut the Borg arm away. Although risky, projectile weapons might help us to defeat the Borg. I would highly suggest that we begin researching a way of utilizing these ancient weapons to better our future."

CURRENT SIM PLOTS

STAR BASE 118

With the StarWind fully repaired, and underway, the base crew is left with little action. Admiral Wolf receives a transmission from StarFleet HQ reminding him that hostages are stilling being held by the Dominion in the Gamma Quad, and that if action isn't taken soon, we may never get them back. Because of Captain Arvanon's personal involvement, it is decided that he will head a mission to retrieve them. Using holoimagers from Dr. Hamlet's ship, the crew boards the USS Xanth, a defiant class warship, and heads out, masquerading as the USS Relihan - A. A mercy ship.

USS ARIZONA

While shuttling Commander Skyfire and Ensign Karis to Starbase 45 and their new ship, we encountered a Caldonian distress signal from the science station Prex. Answering, we found that they had discorporated (transferred themselves to energy only in order to avoid otherworlder contact) and that some of their discorporated particles had been abducted by a Cardassian vessel. Their CPU, Penthar, had sent the signal and requested our assistance in recovering the lost "alpha particles." We engaged the Cardassians, while discovering that some alphas had made their way to our own ship as well. Eventually disabling the Cardassian vessel, we were then informed that the Caldonians had discorporated the Cardassians, effectively killing them, and that they ordered us to leave their space without investigating further. That we declined to do, and we now have an away team on the Cardassian ship, where it is becoming increasingly obvious that the Caldonians are not the victims we had thought them to be.

USS FREEDOM-A

USS ISANNAH

On a diplomatic mission as representatives of the Federation to Kemtis (a planet in the process of applying for Federation membership), during a harvest festival. Kemtis is located in a Binary System which it shares with its hostile neighbors of Domtar III. In the past Kemtis suffered a plague which caused the sterility of the majority of the planet's inhabitants. They have begun to repopulate through cloning and the few remaining fertile citizens. There are suspicions that the Kemtisians are holding back information from the Federation concerning their cloning practices.

USS RANGER–A

USS STARWIND

USS StarWind: The StarWind is finishing up repairs at Starbase 118 while her crew participates in training simulations in the base's training facilities. Departure from the base is scheduled for the conclusion of the training.

INTERVIEW

This month I am interviewing Lieutenant Commander Daen Ceinwen, a Bajoran female and Mission specialist on the USS Ranger.

Why did you choose a career in StarFleet?

::blinks:: Well, ::seriously:: I want to kick some Cardassian A--, butt. They orphaned me. They're no good. Starfleet gives me the opportunity to prevent the same thing from happening again.

Is that the only reason, revenge?

Revenge is a part of it. Also ::smiles:: I'm not the family, housewife kinda gal.

I like to be where the action is.

Do you see yourself remaining in command, then, or moving into security?

I like where I am, I don't want to limit my ability to make command decisions. Security is, to me, too closed.

What has been your most challenging situation to date?

I'm a woman of action, in our last mission, the captain decided to leave me with the ship, when he and a few of the other officers went to meet with the renegades. I had a great deal of difficulty sitting on the bridge waiting. Luckily, one of the officers managed to hit their communicator when they got into trouble, and I found out this way that they were in danger. As our ship was overrun with a strange virus/parasite, I didn't have a team to lead with me for an attack of force, so I had to use ingenuity to save the captain and away team. With a little 21st century history, I was able to convince them I was a pop star of the time and got them to declare peace. The worst part was the costume I had to wear! It's a long story, ma'am....

It sounds intriguing. Are you an expert on 21st century Earth history?

Not quite. I just like Janet Planet's music. I've always been told I look like her. I have a poster in my quarters....

So, what do you do in your spare time, besides listen to Planet Janet?

I'm an expert at Judo, and I work out a great deal. You never know when you're going to need hand to hand combat skills.

And what are your long range plans in StarFleet?

I don't have any real plans currently, I know I'm not ready to be in a position of too much command. But maybe someday. Doesn't everyone say that though?

No, some people are determined to sit in the captain's chair from the moment they enlist. Anything else you would like to add?

Rock on Starfleet!

Thank you for your time, Commander.

OUT OF CHARACTER

If you have not completed a biography, please do so and send it to Captain Jeff Pelletier. We would like to have your background posted on our website so that your crewmates can know something about you. Thanks.

Our thanks and appreciation to Captain Jeff Pelletier for his work on our website which had the honor of winning website of the week from the Assimilation Ring. Well done.

Captain Sierra Randor requests that people contact her with their ICQ numbers and/or AIM nicks, so that we can talk to each other in "real time". Thanks.
